TheQUESTion
I bought this 86 Silver quest a month ago for a 5.3L swap. http://i175.photobucket.com/albums/w144/windsma/19135bdf.jpghttp://i175.photobucket.com/albums/w144/windsma/964c0ab1.jpg After stripping it I realized it was to far gone w/ rust to continue. This is just what fell off while removing the front cliphttp://i175.photobucket.com/albums/w144/windsma/237ecb53.jpg So back to craigslist. I found this 89 Quest, minimal rust and the body didnt look bad either. No trans, just a block $400 http://i175.photobucket.com/albums/w144/windsma/4969b131.jpg The break down,Took me a few hrs but its mostly gutted. http://i175.photobucket.com/albums/w144/windsma/The%20Quest/DSCN2797.jpg http://i175.photobucket.com/albums/w144/windsma/The%20Quest/DSCN2799.jpg http://i175.photobucket.com/albums/w144/windsma/The%20Quest/DSCN2802.jpg Question... since im going with a universal 21 circuit wiring harness. Can i just cut this harness and toss it. Also, im not a fan of the Sunroof. What would you guys suggest, I have the roof from the silver car i could just weld in. Or go rice and throw a "functional" Roof Scoop.... http://i175.photobucket.com/albums/w144/windsma/The%20Quest/DSCN2801.jpg Edited July 9, 2011 by TheQUESTion
87TsiOwner
Get rid of the stock harness if you're doing a universal one. but may wanna keep all the connectors on the stock one just in case you need them.as far as the sun roof goes, if your good at welding and have patience, take the roof skin off and replace it with the one with the white cars roof skin. may want to weld on some bracing to keep the car square. TheQUESTion
Thanks, just needed a lil push to get me to cut it. Im pretty sure i made the right decision to toss the sliver quest to the side. (you can see it in the background)http://i175.photobucket.com/albums/w144/windsma/The%20Quest/DSCN2806.jpg Im waiting on a check for my 67 GTO project to fund the build. Once it shows up, game on. Fuze
LM4The LM4 (VIN code "P") Vortec 5300 is an aluminum block version of the LM7, and had a short production life. That motor is basically similar to the LS1 with an iron block, right? Horsepower TV did a full episode on swapping them into other vehicles, new wring harness and all, down to the ecu tune.. Might want to grab that episode's DVD it was pretty thorough. PowerBlock TV
Frenchi934
the lm7 is the iron block. the lm4 is aluminum block, both are in the "ls" family, meaning 6 bolt mains etc
