Starfighterpilot
I have many Phillips DVD+RW discs that have old info on 'em that I want to reuse. I am running Windows XP Professional, SP2 but I do not seem to have the tool to erase them. I have tried using the below procedure, which I got from Ehow.com 1] Insert the DVD-RW into the DVD burning drive. Press the "My Computer" or "Computer" icon from the desktop or "Start" menu. 2] Click on the DVD drive. Typically, this is the "D:" or "E:" letter. Files on the disc will appear in a separate window. 3] Select the "File" tab on the toolbar. Scroll to the "Erase this Disc" option. Click "Next." Wait approximately 2 to 3 minutes for the disc to erase. Select "Finish" when complete. 4] Open and close the DVD drive. Use your specific burning program to write new files to your DVD-RW disc. However, using this procedure, I do not have the "Erase this Disc" option in the My Computer, File tab menue. Can anyone help me? Thanks in advance. Ken BTW - I'm using the full Nero 9 as my burning program. Edited June 29, 2011 by Starfighterpilot

fastfail
All you have to do is write back onto the disc. It will go right over your old data.

Nero 9, not Nero Express Todie I actually forgot that he could open computer from his start menu and with the disc inserted in the DVD drive, and right click on the file for a drop down menu and click "FORMAT" which will promt a Warning message that ":Formatting will erase all data on this disk,.." Hows your headache now Todie ?
Killtodie
I was talking about your suggestion to wipe an optical disc with a magnet.... Nero Express is part of Nero. It's the simpler interface.' My head still hurts, mr electrical engineering

SidewaySStarion
If you don't want to buy Nero or a demagnetizer you can use Imgburn and go to Tools > Drive > Erase Disk.
