blue_crush
I was going to paint my spokes and polish the lip but I said what the hell.... Took about 9 hours total, and a pant load of elbow grease. http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f187/whitey240sx/89%20Street%20Quest/001-8.jpg http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f187/whitey240sx/89%20Street%20Quest/004-10.jpg http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f187/whitey240sx/89%20Street%20Quest/002-11.jpg http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f187/whitey240sx/89%20Street%20Quest/003-11.jpg http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f187/whitey240sx/89%20Street%20Quest/012-5.jpg

blue_crush
Thanks guys, Yeah, I sanded em down, took out as many imperfections as I could, and followed a step by step sanding process, and then polished em up. I still have one more step to finish the polish, but I don't have anymore of the compound. Tomorrow they get new shoes, and mounted up. B1G_M4K
Wow, that looks incredible! I should have done something like that to my poor wheels before mounting the new tires I put on her. Oh well... Once again man nice job.

blue_crush
I took a couple pics today, they aren't that great. http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f187/whitey240sx/89%20Street%20Quest/002-12.jpg http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f187/whitey240sx/89%20Street%20Quest/001-9.jpg I sanded them down with a D.A. sander for the first 3 steps of sandpaper to get all the pitting out, and road rash. then just went finer and finer. First I used a stripper to get the factory clear coat off, then 80,220,300,400,600,800,1000 wet,1500 wet,2000 wet, 0000 steel wool, and then mothers. I still need to use a less abrasive compound to finish them and then apply a sealer. and yes, It took a long tail time. fingers were very sore
87TsiOwner
use meguiars, i believe number 86 compound. its the diamond compound that breaks down over the course of you buffing and is an excellent compound.
Burton
Here's one of the 21 chapters in an online body/paint/detailing manual I made. It's the wheel polishing chapter.... wheel polishing It gives some step by step instructions on how to do it, and also gives different instructions based on how "good" you want them. For instance, there's no need to get carried away on the whole wheel if you are planning to paint the wheel centers.
87Black_Stallion
Get an high speed drill with a few cotton wheels. Use a good bar of red rouge first then wipe and a bar of white rouge last.
yamahlr
I have some aftermarket 80's era mesh wheels where the lips are anodized. Aside from sending them out, how do I remove the anodize and polish the rims? (centers are black and pretty good shape) The rim part have some sctatches so I will need to remove all the anodize to repair them (if I had known they were anodized would not have bought them..... Too late now
yamahlr
LOVE that you left the paint on the inset spoke area, that wasn't an issue w/ the paint stripper?
blue_crush
no, I just didn't spay the stripper on it, if it got on the painted areas I just wiped it off
