i dont know if anyone has thought about it but i have an idea. My buddy bought a flipped srt-4 out of an auction two years ago and put the motor trans and interior in his 2-door 98 neon and was thinkin about the same swap in my car. Maybe i could buy a flipped car like he did and then get a jeep liberty transmission. just a thought though

3 reasons for not doing it.

1. turbo is funky something about the manifold and turbo being one piece or something

2. it's a Neon

3. it's a Neon

1 reason to consider it

if it bolts up to a liberty tranny could

AWD be an option?

turbo and manifold could be changed though

there is some serious power being made with these motors. my buddy with his swap has a 35-shot, stock turbo on 21lbs, intake, and big fmic putting down 306whp 408wtg

i guess awd could be an option

I like the idea of that, the only problem that the jeep tranny probably isn't the strongest, this I think is talked about on turbododge.com. You could prolly find some more info on that site.

That is exactly(almost) what I'm gonna do with my Conquest. I'm gonna put a modified Stage 3 SRT-4 motor in it with a Tremec T-56 6speed along with a fully gutted interior and roll cage. My goal is low 11's on street tires and high 10's on slicks. The project is about 18 months from becoming a reality...................but it WILL happen.

It's true that the hot side of the turbo is part of the manifold, but if you are doing an engine swap why not switch turbo's while you are at it. The liberty tranny will bolt up as it is used with the common mexican blocks but the input shaft will prove to be a weak link.

As far as it being a neon, wanna come race mine?

this is a thought for my starion as well since i already have the 2.4 to build and swap...but the trannys situation seems to be an issue

i was going to build my neon this way but i aquired my starion so i think ill have more fun

and as far as it being a neon...... come to buffalo ill show ya a few with that swap done

you also dont need a motor from an srt4...it would be cheaper to find a 2.4 from a stratus/pt cruiser ect ect and buy the srt4 internals and whatnot

link please?

there is no link, i started a write up of this a long time ago, when everyone said it couldnt be done. i never got the project finished as i wanted to put the setup in a flatty.

you have to run a standalone system, and you can use the jeep liberty trans. i used a stock jeep liberty clutch kit, so as to keep it simple. ( i dont think it will last long at all, it was just to get it together). i made a intake manifold and exhaust manifold, as i had bought a long block. i dont have a turbo system for it right now, and dont plan on getting one, or finishing the project untill i find the car i want to put it in.

ill be more than willing to help with questions, but at the current moment i can do pics cause as i lost my camera a few months ago.

i honestly dont know if its even going to work well, the gearing in the liberty trans worries me more so than anything breaking. although im sure you could make enough power to over come the gearing issues if they were to high.

im not sure if it would work, but i know the guys over on TD are useing a toyota supra transmission to mate to a 2.2 or 2.5 block, which you can bolt to a 2.0 or early 2.4 head. (same desgin as the srt-4 heads, but the srt-4 head cant be used in the hybrid engine.)

food for thought, the hybrid engines are makeing just as much power as the srt-4 engines, if not more on simular setups.

ill see if i cant start compileing my info again and try to get this going for those of you interested. just give me some time, its not an overnight project.

Well, for anyone interested in this swap, I have a complete Valvetrain, with AGP Stage 4 kit, and MUCH more. PM me if interested in purchasing. I'll let everything I've got go for dirt cheap.

how dirt cheap... send me a pm as i may be looking to buy it.

Has anyone done one of these yet? I just bought a 2003 PT Cruiser turbo motor for this swap. I'm going to use the Liberty bell housing with the Supra R154 transmission. I'm going to try to keep the factory wiring and computer from the PT if possible. Edited by METZ

Unfortunately after much research I decided it wouldn't be worth it to go with the SRT-4 motor for the power I want to make..........and the transmission problem is a big issue. I have decided to just go with a 4G63 with T-56 combo. The engine is in my garage and I will hopefully start back on that project in early 2010.
