87B71Brad
I know theres probable a post somewhere on here but I cant find it. so here it goes: I know I gotta have a mass and a maf translator. But which mass can I use? And how is all this acomplished. My hard pipes are knock offs that are built to fit the car so I was planning on placing the mass after the turbo b4 the bov (blow thru?). Any help is appreciated. Brad
D_Venable
if your gonna place it after the turbo, I'd recommend after the BOV as well. This will get rid of rich between shifts, and on decel from loosing metered air. Just about any 3" or 3.5" GM MAF will work, any GM V8 vehicle will have this mass, camaro, corvette, trucks. Many of the GM v6 MAF's are the same ones as well. The GM MAF plugs into the translator, then the translator plugs into the stock harness, but not directly. You have to do the same mods as if your gonna run a 1G MAS to run the translator. Either trim one of the plugs, or splice in a 1G MAS plug. It's rather easy to do. But if you don't have a wideband O2, GET ONE! You'll have to tune it a little, it doesn't take much, but the wideband will give you more accurate readings on your a/f ratios. I run a 3" GM MAF, after the BOV, the BOV is in the headlight opening in this pic http://www.26liter.us/gallery/albums/userpics/10030/P8080584.jpg Here's a couple pics of the plug modding (to the translator's plug) to run a translator meant for the 1g DSM http://www.26liter.us/gallery/albums/userpics/10030/PB100145.jpghttp://www.26liter.us/gallery/albums/userpics/10030/PB100144.jpghttp://www.26liter.us/gallery/albums/userpics/10030/PB100143.jpg I also lengthened the harness on the translator so I could place the translator itself inside the car, here's a pic of where I've got it placed http://www.26liter.us/gallery/albums/userpics/10030/P9020643.jpghttp://www.26liter.us/gallery/albums/userpics/10030/P8300628.jpg Edited February 27, 2011 by D_Venable
StarquestRescue
Here are two good links.http://www.starquestclub.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=107897http://www.starquestclub.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=87405&st=0&p=854026&fromsearch=1entry854026 When used in blow threw the gm mas should go after the intercooler like D_Venable's set up. Blow threw setting will be different than draw threw setting. It is best to start plenty rich and lean it out a little at a time.
87B71Brad
awesome....I guess I got a mass that will work than. One off a 5.3 truck and one off a 350 vortec. I'll go with the after bov as mentioned. Oh and I run a 1g lid so I'm good there. I'll have to purchase a wideband I guess.(currently using narrowband) When you say "tune" Is this accomplished by using the translator...or what device do you use to tune it? Im looking for a near perfect idle, and to really clean up under the hood by doing this. And to beable use a regular cone filter on turbo.

Brad Go here: http://www.ongreenperformance.com It is a one stop, buy it all supplier for the Maf-Translator set up.As far as making it a "Blow thru" set up, see how others accomplished it.I did it right off the Throttle Body, but since have gone back to a blow off set up.I like the blow off configuration much better.
