Evoz17
Sorry for a newb question. But I plan on doing the mr2 strut mod over the winter. Now I have read and reread the How To. Im not looking to do coilover sleeves. My car will never see any track time. My questions, 1. Can I reuse the stock spring perch and springs on the rear?2. Do i need camper plates or can i use oem top hats both front and on rear?3. On the how to it details modding the rear housings, do the fronts need modding?4.On the how to, the mr2 rears are about two inches shorter. So in essences with the rears modded the car will sit two inches lower then stock even if I use stock springs? Overall im trying to keep cost as low as possible. Turbo Cary
this is what I used: Front non adjustable starion strut housingsMK1 10 way adjustable shock insertsMK1 front camber platesCosmo front sleeve overs MK1 empty threaded strut housingsMK1 10 way adjustable shock insertsMK1 rear camber platesCosmo rear sleeve overs If you go this route you have to ask Mookeeh for the proper nuts to use with camber plates. The ones supplied are a different thread pitch than the stock starion struts but he includes both styles if you ask. I am still using the stock spring perches but that's cause I was in a hurry to get it done. You can cut them down it makes it better. Also a 2 or 2.5" exhaust pipe section is needed. You measure the length of the sleeve over and cut it to match, the put a slit down the middle of the pipe so it can be opened slightly and tapped down onto the strut housing. Then use a rubber mallot to tap the sleeve over on. This fills in the gap between the sleeve and strut housing. However in my opinion buy D2's. The time and money is better spent on those. I think the MK1 front camber plates could be better. I am planning on getting the sleeve over/camber plates from http://www.technotoytuning.com They seem like they would work better on the front especially for the difference in price. Evoz17
That's why i want to see if i can use oem springs and top hats keeping cost low. I'm trying not to do any sort or coil over system. If not like you say, go D2's. But i do want to go lower then stock height. My reasoning for the shorter mr2 struts and oem springs is i would not lose strut travel and have a comfortable oem like ride but at a lower height. Turbo Cary
I don't know if the stock springs and spring hat would work with the camber plate. I never tried it. I believe it would put too much pressure on the bearing portion of the camber plate. At least if you get sleeve overs you can adjust the height to make it even. Evoz17
I wont be getting camper plates if not needed. Do the front housing need to be modified for mr2 inserts?
Turbo Cary
You need to either shorten the housings and weld in perches, or buy them from 101propose on eBay. He sells them with an adapter to take up the difference in space.
IntercooledFlatty
on the front, why not just buy the KYB insert that fit right in ?
Evoz17
Wont the rear sit lower with the mr2 inserts and the front with oe inserts? I need new struts and I want to lower the car but not slam it. I suppose I could just add a spacer in the rear with the mr2 insert and get lowering springs, but thats also where an issue arises as i cant find lowering springs.
