Fanta
Alright, I'm at a crossroad. I'm having trouble deciding if I want to go ATi or NVidia. I know NVidia has had some issues with their chipsets, but a majority of mobo's are also NVidia friendly. I'm definitely out of the loop ( I had to play catch up recently on all about dual cores, quad cores, the differences, etc to decide on what I wanted ) So far my specs are Intel Q9450 2.66Ghz Quadcore ( 12mb L2 cache ) ASUS Maximus II Formula LGA 775 Intel P45 ATX Intel Motherboard --- the rest is still in a process of being sorted out
jisleyjr
I have always been a fan of nvidia. Here is an article on tomshardware.com that might help you. http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/Best-G...-Card,2033.html When i usually buy a card i find the top card and dial it back to the 2nd or 3rd best. Most i spent was $400 on an nvidia 8800gts 640mb, that was over a year ago, card is still kicking butt on my 46" lcd at 1920x1080 resolution on cod4, rainbow 6 vegas 2, etc... The last card i bought was a nvidia 9800gtx for the desktop, only $200. Scored slightly higher on 3dmark06 when i did a back to back test to the 8800gts. The new ati 4000 series card sound pretty nice too. Oh also find reviews and find dimensions. my 9800 is about 11" long, it barely fit in my midtower. It hangs over into the hd section thus taking up 2 spots for my hd's. Don't forget to make sure your power supply can handle it. need at least 600 watts for some of these bad boys. Fanta
Yeah I was looking at the ATi Radeon 4000 series - how they recently ( well a few months ago ) ranked out for the best bang for your buck. If I do happen to go with NVidia, I'd be sticking with EVGA because I've had GREAT experience with them when it came to RMA's ( lifetime warranty guaranteed is hard to beat ) As for the case, I have a Cooler Master HAF932 http://www.coolermaster.com/products/produ...ail&id=5363 As for price, I want to stick around $150-$200 range - maybe $250 tops. Also aiming on nabbing an 850W PSU - one with a 12v rail if it isn't beyond my scope of price. Edited October 8, 2008 by Fanta

jisleyjr
You can't go wrong with cooler master. This is the case i have had for over a year and it is still in great shape, rock solid too. http://www.coolermaster.com/products/produ...te=17&id=
on4now4
ati has always made better hardware but because there software sucked nvidia was on top but finely the amd ati merge is starting to show through and the most recent ati series is way better than the most recent nvidia series it is also cheaper. when the ati cars came out nvidia had to send out a refund to all the people that bought the card the second it came out because they couldn't compete with ati's price and had to lower it 150 bucks. as for the cooler master i know a few people that have them and they say they break alot, always get a thermaltake it may cost a little more but you will never have to buy another case
strang3majik
I just like Nvidia since its Intel, and Im loyal to Intel...but, Ive heard mixed opinions recently. The biggest thing is, if your planning on SLI vs Crossfire, Crossfire software, and suppoort sucks. Nvidia SLI (2 card anyway, not tri) works pretty flawlessly and has some good gains. As far as single cards, best bet would be to check out benchmarks of the two on top of your list...just google "ATI **** vs. Nvidia ****" thats how I picked my 8800GT over a GTS and as far as cases, Antec is great. I have an Antec 650W TruePower Trio PSU and and Antec P180 Case. Both well made and do their job. Though I must admit, the P180 is very undersized in the pics...the thing could probably house a small child or act as a boat anchor.

Great way to waste time, or play a game while working ( lol ). I haven't had a chance to try out faction warfare just for fun.

Oxide
Isn't your motherboard a crossfire one? If so, I'd stick with ATI. A 4870 can be had for ~$250 and you can always buy a second card later. Here's one. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16814125225 Here's the same one as mine. Really fast card. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16814102797 You're going to want a good power supply too especially if you plan on running 2 cards. I bought this one, decent price and good performance. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16817128010 Edited October 11, 2008 by Oxide
Fanta
turns out the Mobo I wanted didn't carry @ Microcenter, so I figured I'm there, I want to buy, so I picked up an EVGA 780i FTW...
