OK so I posted this here cause it really has nothing to do with my build. I have an extra hood off my '86 (it's been replaced with an '83 hood) and was in the mood to get my hands dirty and learn a little something DIY-ish today. So I went out and got some aircraft paint remover and tried it out on the hood. Man this stuff works amazingly, just like Mark said it would.
