  1. I've sand blasted a whole heap of cast aluminum parts such as the intake manifold, thermostat housing, water neck, turbo housing and want to keep the clean aluminum look. What are my options? Of course I could powdercoat everything, but I was wondering what the other options are. Is there a sealer? Clear anodizing? It needs to be easy to wipe down and stay clean.
  2. How did he get 10 years for buying back his own property? Am I missing something?
  3. This is looking great. Im excited that Bill is involved too. I hope to see more DOHC Mitsubishi V6 RWD swaps in the future. Sooooo tempting. If you need any wiring info or anything I can help with, please ask.
  4. I'm pretty sure whatever I posted on projectzerog.com is correct. Although its been over 5 years since I last updated the website, I did spend quite a bit of time verifying everything back then. Have you checked the part numbers for the brackets in CAPS? I'm pretty sure I verified all this years ago and they've worked great for me on 3 previous swaps. Rather than scratching your head, why not buy mightymax mounts from the dealer? They're only like $15 each. I do disagree about the engine being too high with the mightymax mounts. They make the motor sit the exact same way the 2.0 motor sat in the car from the factory.
  5. I had an HX35 on my car with the 2.4L DOHC. Using a cast [slowboy I think] aftermarket manifold and smaller [bullseye I think] A/R housing. Turbo spooled by 3K rpm. Torque was pretty much a flat line from 3K to 8K redline. Loved this. Ran 1bar boost and made 340whp. Was a dedicated drift car. Currently retired but putting everything on a street car this fall with a Megasquirt PNP rather than the Autronic SMC. Should be fun.
  6. The fuel economy would be horrible. Heck, I lost 6mpg in my Miata at 85mph compared to 65mph.
  7. I agree. Best to leave that bolt off.. its such a pain and just not worth it. You can also run a piece of fenc wire hooked through if you need to run the wires through again.... makes all the difference.
  8. is looking for his next Starquest
  9. Hanover PA. Junkfood capital of the world. I grew up about 25 min from there. Go up often to visit the folks.
  10. I passed one Sunday hauling butt up the hill on Keeney Mill Road in Freeland MD. Looked and sounded great. Rocking my old color scheme. Who was it? I gave the enthusiastic thumbs up from the red Miata. First time I've seen StarQuest in the wild that wasn't parked or at a meet in 3 years or so.
  11. I'm still serious about coming up and checking this out. Last week I was simply easy to distract. I'm free most evenings this week if that works. I'm down in DC, but Baltimore isnt too far away. I'll call this evening. What time is best?
  12. Good Question... I still have the Police Star... still have the rear quarter cut out from that drifting mishap a few years ago. I drove a few events after that sans rear corner. The last event was December 2009 where I kicked rod 1 out the side of the block on the 2nd turn of the day. I was pretty frustrated. That made 3 events in a row where I got less that 15 min of track time before breaking down. I trailered it home and pulled the engine / wiring / etc and parked it. This spring dad asked me to clean up my cars (3 Starquests and a Festiva). I looked at the rule books to see what I would need to run in any of the near by drift series and it would need about $1000 worth of safety upgrades / repairs. I decided not to put any more $$ into a car I can't enjoy more than a few times a year. That's when I started thinking about getting a nice chassis with an interior in order to do a swap similar to Busdriver's (Craig's) swap I did at the end of 2008. Something I can give my friends rides in and enjoy on the street. I'll likely rebuild my 2.4 over the coming months and swap the Holset / Rx7 trans / 240SX steering / etc as well. There are tons of other chassis I'd like to play with, but just due to the amount of spares I've got right now, I want to do another Starquest. I've got to get something, figure out just what I need to salvage from my parts cars to get a new one up to par and then get rid of the rest.
  13. I'm seriously considering getting another Starquest. Sure the race car was still being driven until the end of 2009, but I've been missing driving one on the street since June of 2005. I wonder how much things have changed since then... The dollar sure is weaker so just about anything imported is going to cost tons more. I think the cost of parts like pistons / rods and other things has nearly doubled. How many LESS Starquests exist since then? Original parts / parts cars must be getting pretty hard to find. Luckily I've got enough parts to build a few of these things stashed in the shed. How about SQ club? I see some familiar names still around, but there are a whole bunch more I don't. And all the new people! Wow. I wonder how many of the cars on here have been passed down from those owners in 6+ years ago. I've had a Miata since 2006. I'm really looking forward to having more than 2 seats and a turbo.... maybe even a 4th 4G64 swap.
  14. http://www.automopedia.org/wp-content/uploads/2010/11/kenny-powers-yukon-denali.jpg I'm interested in getting back in the SQ game. When can we meet up?
  15. I'm interested in your yellow rolling chassis. Could I get more info. I'm looking for a clean chassis / interior to swap my race motor and suspension into for a nice 4 seater daily driver. I'm located in Washington DC and have a truck and trailer. Hoping to get back to the SQ world after 2 years. Mike aka DJpowerhaus www.projectzerog.com
  16. I'm in MD... Washington DC really and Busdriver is up by Columbia MD halfway between DC and Baltimore.
  17. It has been a long time. Still good to see all the familiar names checking this place out.
  18. Excellent! I have a similar setup as far as being rack and pinion, tons of angle, tons of caster and slammed on the ground. It will blow your mind.
  19. Starion starters are tough. I pulled my car onto the trailer with it before. Heck, I've even spun the tires on the metal ramps using the starter. The solenoid eventually gave up the ghost after 21 years of abuse.
  20. I still think its one of the meanest sounding stock exhausts in a LONG time. How many cars in the last 20 years do you know of that came from the factory without a muffler? Oh and look at this crazy intercooler pipe setup? Its got like a million bends! Looks like a snake! http://img36.imageshack.us/img36/5655/img6498v.jpg
  21. Some friends and myself are going camping this weekend to Glendale Springs, NC. We'll be driving from Washington DC. If I'm going that far, I'm going to be sure to drive a bit further and do some fun driving. It would be nice to meet up with a Starquester while I'm down there and hit the Tail of the Dragon. I'll have my Miata and one brave soul in the passenger seat. I'll be with the group Friday - Sunday, but I'll have Sunday afternoon and Monday morning free. Anyone want to meet up?
