I agree about the wheels. Although to get the racing look a set of stock wheels powdercoated looks great but for a street car a nice set of wheels really transforms the car.

does your 87 have 3.9 LSD and intercooled 4G63 but Exterior and Interior wise i think my model (called a JD in Australia) is very close to your 85.5 specs. http://img368.imageshack.us/img368/9189/p3040244kl2.jpg

My original flatty, One of THE rarest Starions ever made. Rumoured to be about 50-60 of this model at most. http://sigmaman87.cruisingmackay.com/brendans_starion.jpg I loved this cars stance and nice clean lines from the front along the window sill to the rear wings, Just makes sense.

Flattys have a really clean look, Especially the JD models or 85.5 models.

FD series of RX-7, the Series 6 came out in 96 and still looks like a new shape today. http://www.power-gt.net/image.php?Id=449 -
Single cam 4G63 Turbo motors have the same rods as the VR-4 motors (maybe evo 1-3 cant remember). twin cam pistons will fit into a SOHC motor as well. The only reason i would use a 4G63 Starion motor is that they are wideblock and have the engine mounts on them.
-
All twin cam 4G63 are narrowblock motors, this wont bolt up to the Starion gearbox as the Starions are all wideblock motors. You may be able to find a SOHC wideblock 4g63 in US (been told they are very rare) and rebuild it with better internals and fit a twin cam head but its alot of stuffing around. From the Evo 4 up, the blocks didnt have the mounting points needed for RWD engine mounts moulded into the block so fitting the block would be hard. If i was in US and was set on going twin cam 63, I would import a SOHC 4G63 Starion block from Australia or UK and rebuild it and out an Eclipse head on it. The SOHC 4G63 motors in the Starions in other countrys have oil squirters and are wideblock so it will bolt to the US gearbox.

I actually went to a Rotary meet up recently. Been helping friend with his 13bt Series 3. Put some 1000cc injectors in the secondarys and tuned to 15psi. Such a different feeling to a piston motor. First few times being passenger you keep thinking "shouldnt he have shifted 3,000rpm ago" Got to drive it 200miles home on the weekend. Overtaking on the highway was fun
-
Both of my Starions have used the Starion 3.9 LSD (swapped the diff into new car) Its ok on the highway, Makes passing fun. Around town its awesome, Miles ahead of the 3.54

If you just want a simple MPI quest don't worry about coil packs. Keep it as simple as possible. Few guys here making over 300hp easily with single coil setups.

Rough calculation comes up with $22,590. Bound to be a few things i missed.

When i put US lights on my car (done it with 2 cars now) ive used the exsisting bulb holders so all the wiring stays the same. Ive found swapping in overseas bulb holders makes things stop working. -

Worse condition cars have been saved. Depends how deep your pockets are and if your patient enough to go through with it all. Just think, the money you sink into the Celica you could put towards importing a Starion
