  1. count your pinion teeth again, I bet you have a 4.222 with 9 pinion teeth and 38 ring gear teeth. 38/9=4.222
  2. So where is the end of the earth? on a sphere there is no beginnig, nor end, nor edge. it's a unique shape in that way. no edge, no beginning, no end, not even a delineation point of any sort. This is why the bible can not be taken seriously from a scientific view, ever. It's all subject to interpretation, and there is an excuse or explanation for everything. Who says the oldest known version isn't actulay the 3rd or 4th oldest and we just lost the first ones, thus makign the "oldest ones" just a mere "interpretation"? there is no end to the doubtability of the text we have today. Thus it shouldn't be used in such a way, it diminishes the value contained within the text. I think both sides have merit, and you can benifit from both if you free your mind enough. I am quite pleased with the realization that I will never have absolute knowledge of anything, and that I don't have to. I will take some things on faith, and others no so much.
  3. that is not how it works, you have to calculate the circumfrence of the center of contact points between the 2 gears. Teeth per gear means nothing. You can change the diameter and shape of those 8 & 38 gear teeth and still get by with 8 teeth on the pinion, but a completely different ratio. Tooth count can only be useful if all 3.55's are known to be X, 3.90's to be Y, and 4.22's to be Z, then you can compare tooth count.
  4. If you think of the earth as the center of the universe, as they all did in the old bible days, then indeed, the sun does travel in a circuit : purely by perception. Try this on a merry-go-round, sit in the middle, presume you are the center of the universe, and watch everythying arround you that you can see travel in a circuit/ regardless of which way you look. Look up at the sun while spinning and watch it have an eliptical (circuit-like) orbit. He set the earth on its foundations; it can never be moved. (From the NIV Bible, Psalm 104:5 Apparenlty the earth doesnt' move at all... there are so many contradictions, it's hard to take any facts as facts. I find it very useful and fulfilling to read, but I dont' take it like a book of facts, but rather a book of morals and lessons.
  5. Isaiah 11:12 : And he shall set up an ensign for the nations, and shall assemble the outcasts of Israel, and gather together the dispersed of Judah from the FOUR CORNERS OF THE EARTH where are these 4 corners on this spehere we live on? The earth was widely beliveved to be a flat square. Where else will you find a geometric shape with 4 corners? If you write enough stuff in a book, some of it's bound to be found to be correct some day. Problem lies in how much one must contradict ones self to accomplish this feat. Is the corerct stuff "early wisdom", and the incorrect sfuff just dismissed ? It's hard to take that approach seriously.
  6. Ecclesiastes 1:6 is right, except where it is wrong. the jet sterams travel in different directions, depending on where you are on the planet. See : http://en.wikipedia....Circulation.jpg Psalm 19:6 'The sun goes in a circuit' the milky way is also in motion, why is that not mentioned? Hebrews 11:3 'By faith we understand that the entire universe was formed at God's command, that what we now see did not come from anything that can be seen.' define visible? I think the author was implying devine godly "magic", not atomic particles (which can be seen with man made tools BTW ). Air isn't visible either, but I can feel it. Job 26:7 'God stretches the northern sky over empty space and hangs the earth on nothing. what about the sourthern sky? It's kind of vague don't you think? I can go into most any book/novel/story and pick out statements that will make the case for just about any belief/faith. many do so to commit horrible acts. Doesnt' make that OK now does it?
  7. we know as much about science as we do "gods will", very little. Why did the big bang happen? is that how it all started or did something preceedit? why is the magnetic force so much stronger than gravity? there are so many things we just don't know. My point? with scince we don't know it all either, but what we do know, we can repeat/reproduce/study wtih absolute ceartanty. I know that if I mix a pure base and pure acid, I will get salt water every time. I klnow if I drop an object, that it will fall towards the gravitational center of this planet unless something gets in it's way or an external force acts upon it, every time, with 100% certanty. I can't do that with anything that relates to gods will, it's a crap-shoot every time. Therein lies the faith vs science debate. Some scinece we do take on faith, but much of it not so. All of religion is faith based. If I live my life the way god wants and has commanded me in the bible, and I pray that I wll be blessed and saved from harm if I drink turpentine, arsnic, and play with poisinous snakes, that does not predict that I will indeed be safe every time. It is not certain. faith has proven inadequate in both science and religion, but Science has an edge on religion in that some elemnts require no faith at all, they are 100% certain. Personaly, I haven't made up my mind, so I dont' subscribe to any one side of this debate.
  8. How do you make purple paint? you mix red and blue. The pait isn't purple pigments made from red an blue parent pigments having purple baby pigments, it's red and blue still, just mixed together. Violet on the other hand is a different color. Most colors in real life you see every day (excluding the pure colors found in the rainbow) are the result of mixing 2 or more different colors. Science knows this, it's not trickery or misunderstanding. Colors work like musical tones, mix a few together and the result is a new sound, when infact the origional tones never changed and are still present. At any time you can extract the origional tones - unaltered. Same is true of radio waves (my specalty), the signal in transit looks/sounds/acts nothing like what you enjoy when it's demodulated at the receiving end. Take your phone for example, the DTMF tones you hear for the 12 keys is made up on 7 origional tones that are mixed together, each of the 7 tones represents the 3 colums from left to right, and 4 colums from top to bottom. The DTMF decoder de-tunes them to determine which button is pressed. It sounds like 12 unique tones, but it's really made up of only 2 different tones at any one time, wtih only 7 origional tones to work with. your perception that they are all individual tones all this time is your own mis-perception, that is to blame, not science. Those that study the sience of DTMF tones know otherwise. Ignorane in some does not equal universal ignorance. Some of us get it. there is no challenge of evidence in this example, only challenge to ignorance of the evidense. Same could be said for all science.
  9. At one point in evolution, there was more than one species of evolved ape, and the one we are now exterminated the others. That is why there are no talking turtles, we wouldn't let it happen. We were the most succesful, and thus we will be the last and only.
  10. would you be equally evil if you shot him in the heart just before he knifed you? that was my point.
  11. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/You_shall_not_murder In the bible [and in life] there is murder, and there is justified killing. There is a difference.
  12. I think the devil is merely a personification of what is in us all. In that sense, the devil is very real, and none of us is safe/immune. We also then have to accept personal responsibility for how we deal with that.
  13. The bible agrees with you. I can think of several examples.
  14. if you were faced with the thought of being one of the 3 last humans on earth with no chance of procreating, you might look for options. I think they were looking at it like that and only saw one way to sustain civilization. the fact that there were other civilizations out there probably never occured to them as people of the time saw themselves as the center of the universe and never had cause to doubt that assumption. It doesn't take much time to ferment your own crude beer, only a day or so with the right ingredients. if I had just lost my civilizaton/frineds/wife, I'd be looking to make some beer too, stat . Personally, I think the book isn't supposed to be taken so literaly. Perables, lessons, morals. Not just a pure factual telling of exact events. Even Jesus' stories were often "made up" to make a point. They were told as stories, not as facts and those listening knew the stories were not factual events, just a lesson. The value is in the lesson, not the words.
  15. That is the answer is the reason for your questioning on this subject. Lot didn't choose to have children with his daughters, and their motives weren't devient either, you ever really read that story?
  16. True, but is that evil? Does it negate any love you have in your heart. If you did have to do that, would you be "bad"?
  17. killing isn't the only form of evil. can you kill and still be loving, just, and good? capital punishment comes to mind. So does war. Killing isn't always evil.
  18. i've done both on Diffs, they both work. As stated, gotta read the label to get the most out of RTV though. I've found a thin film of RTV on both sides paper gaskets makes them very easy to remove later, so I use it 100% of the time. Scraping an old stuck-on paper gasket sucks.
  19. Magna = 14 mm O-ring AKA common domestic injectors DSM = 11 mm O-ring AKA common import. If there are DSM's that use the 14 mm Oring, than they too will work, but I thought all DSM's were the 11's. Stock TBI's are 11mm for example.
  20. yep, the civic beats the accord and the accord sells better. that's what I said. People have efficent cars here, they just don't buy them [as much].
  21. here are some telling stats, Honda fit sales: http://www.goodcarba...es-figures.html Honda Accord sales: http://www.goodcarba...es-figures.html the Fit beats the accord by 10 MPG, is almost half the price, and the accord outsells the fit almost a hundered to one. We have cheap efficent cars, we just won't buy them. The same is true of many other auto lines from different makers. a hundered to one, you think honda doesn't see that? Ofcourse they don't sell the more economical cars, we won't buy them. the Civic is a closer match to the accord in trim and luxury [and price], and also beats the accord eaisly in MPG, and the accord out sell the civic too.
  22. I had orthoscopic on my knee once, they let me watch while they did it. They told me I'd be too out of it to remember, I guess I tolelrate anesthesia well because I remember it clearly. I had a spinal block so I didn't feel it. My wife had some work done where we later had more work done, the two dr's notes disagree about what is really in there, they cant' both be right, so I do agree with shelby, you dont' always get the whole truth after you are sewed up.
  23. Indeed. I get a free company truck and free gas, so my current situation doesn't cause problems for me. My wife drives a hybrid, so we are already taking a step in the right direction there. We both live less than 3 miles from where we work, and I won't concider living any further than that (long drive times suck too). If I had to pay for my commutes and gas hit $10, i'd look at alternatives too. I won't be a victom, I'll do something about it. I do have a 98 Tahoe that gets ~15 MPG, and we only use it for hauling heavy laods or using my heavy trailer. In those cases, a more efficent alternative isn't practicale, and with only 1000-1200 miles a year on it, it doesn't make much of a case for getting a more expensive diesel. It's just the cost of moving heavy loads. Don't blame the "man" or the "industry", be an advocate for your own household and make changes, fight back. If you don't like the choices you have? blame your neighbors that keep buying Hummers and trucks wtih 400 + HP and get 11 MPG. I can haul a 6000# load just fine with 240 HP and 15 MPG. People are buing those 4200 pound cars cause they have lots of luxury and a smooth ride with 350 HP, the fact that they get 25 MPG when they coudl get 35 is a choice of the consumer.
  24. I was just a kid when the late 70's gas crunch and ubsequent hike in prices happened, and even then I remember it well to this day. If we "forget", who's fault is that? A lot of new compact cars evolved out of that era, and yet we continued to buy gas guzzlers all the way through. Even if this current "gas problem" goes away, I won't forget it next time I buy a car. Even 10 years from now if gas is $1 a gallon, I won't forget. Problem is, most will, and will buy those hummers that only get 8 MPG.
  25. We americans aren't being screwed, we americans are screwing ourselves. As long as we choose to buy cars that get >20 MPG and trucks that get >15 MPG, those kinds of cars will be bought and sold here. The moment we change direction and stop buying those kinds of cars is the same moment they will stop being produced. There are cars here that get great MPG here, they just don't sell. That is americas fault, not a fault of the the industry that makes them. They make what we buy, period. Same as any other industry.
