hi! i hope this is a repost. i haven't kept up on here in recent years. the federal government's department of homeland security defends the nation against terrorist threats by shutting down torrent sites that distribute warez and by seizing imported JDM vehicles. durrr! here's a petition to stop some of the bloating. link i hope you'll find it fitting to add your own name! i did! peace!

i had two stereos in my starion for a while. the only reason i went back was for my halfhearted attempt to sell the car in 2007, and then i put the cd player in my infiniti. the wiring was totally independent between the stock stereo and the nakamichi cd400 headunit i used. i ran a power cable to the interior (by the steering column i think), mounted a small antenna horizontally in the passenger footwell (reception was mediocre but not important), VERY CAREFULLY expanded the cubbyhole below the stock radio to single DIN size using a dremel, and fabricated/bent mounting brackets out of sheetmetal. i disconnected the stock door speakers, allowing the stock headunit to continue powering the dash and rear deck, and ran fresh speaker wires for the headunit to power some 6.5" infinity reference series components in the doors (also had to make brackets for those, stock is 5¼"). i mounted the tweeters in the AC vents on the far sides of the dash. totally invisible from outside ::] it was a lot of work. really, a lot. i meant to do a writeup, but oh well. when i was done, i could listen to talk radio or sermons or whatever on teh stock stereo while playing music through my nice audiophile CD player. tons of fun! (and the awesome 9 band equalizer green LED space stereo got to stay) if i did it again, i would prefer to have some little 6.5" subwoofers in the rear, somehow shared between the two stereos. that could be difficult though. but then i wouldn't have had to bother modding to put the big midbass drivers in the doors. good luck.

yes just got my TPS, passed the sweep test, no problems at all
-
hey, i just rebuilt my throttle body and found that the little plastic bit on the end of the throttle shaft, that turns the TPS, actually broke off the little nub on the end so now the TPS is stuck in one position with nothing to turn it. the TPS feels a little stiff to me, which could have caused it, or somebody else might have thought it was a great idea to stick the TPS in one position and leave it there ::/ ::\ i would like both a good throttle position sensor and the little round plastic thing with the arm sticking out that modulates the TPS. or an entire throttle body, if it's cheap and has a good TPS. thanks eh

magic_silver_box replied to magic_silver_box's topic in Parts for sale
bump.. sorry but i'd prefer to ship domestically. i guess i should have replied a little sooner. erf.. fogs and surrounds are still for sale, tails have been sold. make me an offer! -brian -
i think my first thread got deleted! my minty tsi is still for sale. i just have been very lazy about getting rid of it. i just dumped the price from 4k to 3500 cause i finally do kind of need to sell it. -clean title, no rust, no accidents, no bondo -112xxx miles -original engine & transmission- very smooth -very clean body and original paint -burgundy interior with 88/89 seats & steering wheel. -some *DM stuff- 2nd gen 3" exhaust (very quiet), accordion hardpipe, OVCP with turboxs blowoff valve, some more hardpipes -new u-joints professionally installed at powertrain industries (driveshaft specialist shop in socal) -goodridge stainless steel brake lines -lots of upgraded fittings and other stuff i don't want to make a tedious list of very large pixx are here. i think it shows my momo wheel and aftermarket stereo, which have been removed. anybody want it? send me a pm or reply. i'm friendly so ask me questions. keep it relevant in the thread please. -brian

FS: foglights with L83 surrounds $50 shipped obo
magic_silver_box replied to magic_silver_box's topic in Parts for sale
bump, 50 shipped for either -
duhhhhhh i forgot to list a price. i was thinking 50 a pair for the tails or fogs[[edit: that's the shipped price now!]][][]][[]][]]]]]]]]]]]. if those prices are unreasonable then somebody call me on it cause i'm not an expert with starion parts. also these are in orange county, california. these are off a junked 87 starion esi. the tail lights have a couple of cracks but are in very nice shape, and the foglights are nice too with minor wear and tear. the fog surrounds are L83 palermo gray. if anybody wants just the surrounds then make me an offer. pixx / tails fogs if the img page doesn't load, go to http://img.anal0g.org/msb and hit "for sale stuff". it's weird. thanks for looking. -brian

i need everything including the little hardlines that attach to the struts and the bendy metal things you use to attach the fittings to the chassis hardlines and all those little pieces... in fact i don't really even need the rubber lines. i had some some steel brakelines that were a 4-hose setup and i am switching to goodridge lines which have 8 hoses. unfortunately i don't have some of the stock pieces that get reused. maybe someone with a parts car can send me that stuff. throw me a price. thanks -brian

bump... if you're still parting i could use the entire stock brakeline kit including all the little hardlines on teh struts and little washers and everything. throw me a price if you want, pm or whatever -brian

Replacing dash speakers...
magic_silver_box replied to indy_85stariones's topic in Stereo and Electrical Mods
edit: DUH DUH DUH DUH i undid the wrong screw in step 13. ^ that screw is the one for the face a/c vent to the left of the steering wheel. move the fusebox out of the way and look up through the opening to see the screw attached to the bottom of the vent piece to be moved in step 18. you guys could probably figure that out yourselves in less than a day, but i couldn't so my vent was stuck in place. by the way, brilliant writeup. i just botched that one step and got frustrated. also remember, this measurement is for the height of the entire speaker. the oem speaker is flat on top and mounts flush to the bottom of the mounting surface, whereas most aftermarket speakers are coaxials which are designed to bolt down to the top of the mounting surface and stick up a little. you have to make a little spacer for them cause the woofer surround puffs up slightly from the top and the tweeter sticks up out of the middle. i bought an infinity 3.5" coaxial (ref 3012cf), which lists the mounting depth as 1 7/16", but it is 1 7/6" from the mounting tab to the bottom of the magnet and then the tweeter sticks up about ½" the other way. so i have to figure out something else to do cause that's the shallowest speaker i could find. -
i'm installing a second stereo...
magic_silver_box replied to magic_silver_box's topic in Stereo and Electrical Mods
update... the nakamichi is mounted up, wiring is done, woofers are mounted, radio console is cut to accommodate the headunit, everything works nicely. all i have left to dew is take teh dash apart so i can replace the dash speakers and install my tweeters, which i plan to stick in the ac vents on either side of the steering wheel. i also have some polk ex 6.5s to replace the rear deck speakers. writeup thread/pixx will appear when i'm 100% done and the car is not a mess of trim screws and old wrappers and hardware store receipts and socks. should be all done by mod 06 ::] -brian
