  1. and a HUGE turbo, still thats a whole lotta car to see going that fast!
  2. here are a few pics, thought I had more, but this is all I got: http://i1093.photobucket.com/albums/i430/jeph_tsi/20130928_174220_zps31c4451a.jpg The silver bullet! http://i1093.photobucket.com/albums/i430/jeph_tsi/20130928_132136_zpsb3fb989d.jpg http://i1093.photobucket.com/albums/i430/jeph_tsi/20130928_132031_zps74edb638.jpg http://i1093.photobucket.com/albums/i430/jeph_tsi/20130928_134017_zpsd6cbe8bb.jpg http://i1093.photobucket.com/albums/i430/jeph_tsi/20130928_134006_zps968160a8.jpg http://i1093.photobucket.com/albums/i430/jeph_tsi/20130928_133956_zps6e5c2513.jpg This was in an early 70's eldorado, or maybe coupe deville, can't remember exactly, but that boat did around 180iirc! http://i1093.photobucket.com/albums/i430/jeph_tsi/20130928_151707_zpsac18ebb9.jpg I wish I had more, I took mostly video though and don't know how to post them.
  3. ^wait, is that supposed to be an insult? Cuz I feel honored, lol!
  4. YEAH, YEAH, DONUTS? IMMA SPELL MY NAME... Good, if your ready to assume the risk (Mikeys doing donuts, I was joking, Imma saint!), I'll consider V.L.
  5. jeeze, gettin' busy here eh! This is where computers and I have a problem... what a cluster this is! Here is what I know of chalets in pf.... My first car was an '89 fiji shp, that was my dd from 17 to 30 yrs of age. from age 7 to 30 I would make a trek with the family to pf to climb and stay at the top of mt LeConte and that conquest went with me every year that I could drive and I won't lie... it was tough. Now I'll be the first to admit, I'm not much of a computer guy, and haven't got much credibility on this site, but at 17 I got my first conquest, I'm 35 now, and for 14 of those 18 years (thats an estimate) the conquest has been my daily driver, as it is currently is (yes, the one in my sig). For a long time I was on my own and even now I'm not as involved as I should be with this community as I should be (I wish you understood my love for this car). Now please lets get back on topic and stop this thread from being locked!
  6. As for vl, I'm in if the group is, as I understand that for many money is tight. I'm glad that you're posting this (tsi gal) because it is your job that may be in jeapoardy... Not that I plan on being a trouble maker, but I'll be the first to admit that I... may have... done a few illlegal things at pf12 (youtube purple conquest 1jz, lol)! If you're comfortable with assuming the risk, I'm comfortable with staying at your place (vl that is!). But if even 1 member has a problem with that I'd rather go elswhere... WE NEED TO STICK TOGETHER!!!
  7. Crap! This all happened while I was typing my (longwhinded) response, so here's my attempt to catch up! This is too bad, Suzy has obviously lied, I would rather stay away from mb because of this, she obviously has a temper! Jimmy, you've hit the nail right on the head, please realize this as Kidjc states his case, this is her talking to him and trying to bring us back for that 'almighty dollar', lets please please please not let this split the group. This is up to you, I don't mind going to a place that has bad reviews, heck I'll sleep in my car just to party with you guys! Please understand that there will be partying and that it may cause trouble whether we like it or not. I would hate to see your signifigant other be in potential trouble from our group, if you're comfortable with the risk though, so am I. That said I don't want to be labeled as taking anyone's side, kidjc, jainsworth, big john, I've met you all and had a great time.... good people! I hope to see you all, in the same place, for pf14, now lets do our best to get there. Ultimately I'm comfortable with anywhere as long as we do it as a group, so lets figure it out.
  8. shoo, what an unfortunate turn this thread has made! I know I'm not very active in this forum but I'm very interested in this thread for several reasons. Mostly because I will be at pf14, went to '12 and loved it, it was at mountain breeze. Unfortunately a deer interfered with my plans last year and I had to stay home with a beat up car, so I missed all of these shenanigans! I was very satisfied with mb when I went, great location, good rooms, pool, and a great place to see our cars, not as much to show them off to pigeon forge but for the great photo ops they created. I never went to the vacation lodge so I cannot personally weigh in on that. Obviously this has become a controversial topic and as expected we have differing opinions and now two very respected members in a tiff. This is too bad, but to be expected, now in interest of the thread could we please try to get back on topic? I'm not asking anyone to 'make up', but maybe start a new thread to hash out this issue, or maybe take it to pm... The big reason why I ask is that this thread may help make an important decision on what happens for this meet. Kidjc, I absolutely understand your point and objective here, you are simply stating what you heard directly from the mountain breeze, and I really appreciate seeing someone take the effort to contact them to see where 'we' (as a club) stand, this is important to me as it should be to this group. I'm glad to see our reputation in good standing with them whether we use them or not. Its too bad that what Suzy told you contradicts what she said to Jainsworth last year, but these things happen, You've got to realize that the hotel is her job and she doesn't do it just once a year, have you ever had a bad day at work? I know I have, and at the height of frustration harsh things are done and said and now after time has passed she has obviously calmed down, and please realize that on our side bad things were done. This is no excuse for her behavior, and yes, I think its terrible she said that to you you (Jainsworth) last year. Unfortunately this time it may have hit home and one of 'us' may have lost their job from this... that sucks. Now here is my 2.6 (err 2.5) cents on this... Vacation lodge seems like a bad idea, a lot of bad feedback from past meets there, and a member working there who's job we don't want to jeapordize, because lets face it, we gets rowdy! At mountain breeze there is a lot of animosity, best to stay away, which is too bad, I really had fun there at pf12. I would love to get a cabin, or a few, but there are a lot of problems with the chalet's there, primarily parking. When you get up in the hills there parking is tough and the driveways are not too friendly. We would definitely need the help of a local member to go and scout these places to make sure the parking would suffice. Further, if 50 bucks extra bothers people you are in for a rude awakening, these places aren't cheap! Also a deposit will need to be made and someone will have to reserve this place (or places), this person will be liable for any damages, and lets face it, in the middle of nowhere there will be the potential for much more craziness with no one watching over us. A bigger committment will be necessary as reservations and deposits will need to happen in much more of an advance than a hotel on the strip. My vote is a chalet but it seems unlikely because of the cost, and also because we will need to act pretty soon and throw down on a deposit and seriously commit to show up, I'm in for that. The most reasonable solution seems to be to find a completely new place, otherwise it seems the group will be split and I would hate to see that, and hey, maybe we will find something even better, who knows.
  9. ^Thats what I thought at first in my case, 'til I pulled the timing cover and then the problem was obvious. Either way, sound like its time for bsek, it will solve the problem in either case.
  10. I'd like to find the person thinking parting these cars out is a gold mine, lol! As Johnny said, focus on yours, you cant save them all... I hate seeing them go to the crusher, but if no one parted them out where would the parts to keep the good ones going come from? I'm somewhat of a hoarder as I hate seeing good parts junked, and I wish I could afford to save them all but that just isn't the case. Currently I have 2 shells that have been sitting for years, I don't want to part them out although they are already missing drivetrain but letting them sit isn't the best answer either. So I can't afford to fix the shells, if I sell them they will be parted, and if I keep them they will rot... at least in parts they can save other cars rather than sit and decay.
  11. I just recently dealt with an engine with that same issue. The oil pump tension was not good, It had sheared off all of the teeth on the oil pump, unfortunately the owner kept driving it and it developed a rod knock. It wasn't my car so I don't know what it sounded like but he said it had been making the noise for a while. Stop driving it until you check it out, don't want all that metal floating around your engine!
  12. yep, gears, I bet it would reach the top end in the mile, my guess would be around 130.
  13. yep, I've been trying to measure and compare swaybars in a local yard here. found a few that are close but not quite right. What are you using?
  14. keep driving the crap out of it, paint the front end, hopefully find a swaybar for the front
  15. yep, my problem too, I don't mind doing more to the quest but I really don't want a cage in my dd, It could do 160 pretty easily I'd guess. I'd really love to run my vette (c4 zr1), but its all original with 25k on it so I really don't want to modify it. Still I think it would be fun to do just under whatever speed I can tech for just to go that fast legally, and it is fun to go check out. The event runs all weekend but if you go to watch don't go on Sunday, its pretty dead, which is perfect if you want to run. I'll have to post on here when the next one is, it would be fun to make a mini meet of it and cruise to the event and I plan on going to all of them.
  16. I'll have to dig up some pics i have, I went twice this year, cool event but not as cool as I expected. I didn't participate but plan on doing it next time. If you plan on running check out their tech rules, just like in drag racing different speeds need to meet different requirements.
  17. -6 here this morning! Conquest starts right up! Although mine isn't at all stock, stock 1jz lol! My only issue is that at these cooler temps my intercooler works a little too well and I'm getting boost creep followed by fuel cut. Seems like the perfect temp for my car is around 45, doesn't really matter too much anyways as with cool asphault/tires first 3 gears are pretty useless!
  18. I know where a set of 4.22's are, and maybe a set of 4.87's from when I got my 3.90's, but if this price is too high you'll be disappointed with mine! The place I went to charges 100 for the whole diff and you can't separate gears from them, they have a bunch of old mitsu stuff! I don't want to mud up this thread, just wanted to chime in and say time is worth something and not everyone enjoys laying in the cold dirt removing parts.
  19. The insurance company should give you the check, so you can do whatever you want with it. I'd say come here to find all the parts, that should save you some $$, then find a place more to your taste to get the work done.
  20. hmm, something just doesn't add up here, lol! I recently picked up a set or I'd prolly be on this, I got the whole diff from a local yard for 100, to disassemble it to the ring and pinion in a yard would be no fun, they don't just fall out, lol! I would probably pay 50 more to not go through all that crap again, especially in this weather! looks like maybe a few shims and a bearing are left on the pinion too which will be helpful.
  21. merry christmas, hopefully santa brings some nice performance goodies for your sq's!
  22. I think where this gave me the need to 'vent' was from being in a similar situation but on the other side... one of my first mechanic jobs was as a tech at a Tuffy here in cincinnati, someone had brought her prelude (i think) in for a simple tune up and oil change so just as usual I pulled it into a bay, set the e-brake, and got to work. When I got the job done I got in the car to pull it out, released the e-brake and pulled it around front. Unfortunately the e-brake had been rigged and when I used it something broke causing it to drag and make a bunch of noise. The owner raised a huge stink, she couldn't believe I would use the e-brake because I was on level ground in the parking lot and in the bay, and to make things worse the car was an automatic. Unfortunately I had the habbit of using an e-brake, even on level ground, and especially with this car having a hand brake just like my conquest. When we pulled it in to check out what was making the racket we found pieces missing for the drum hardware and zip ties holding it together which broke when I pulled the e-brake. Now unfortunately we were in a bad situation where we couldn't release the car as it wasn't roadworthy, and to re rig it back would have been illegal so we couldn't release it that way either. The owner was beyond mad, and making a scene in front of customers calling us crooks and much worse. So we ended up replacing the rear brakes properly to avoid any further crap from this customer, that day I was the 'retard' (as you put it) who ruined her brakes! Now no one is perfect, and I've messed up too, but sometimes you've got to take some credit for such mistakes, again nobodys perfect. Sorry if I sound like a 'hater' but I was just expressing my opinion in the matter and didn't mean to be insulting. It doesn't make me happy that your in this situation, and certainly not happy to see another conquest with a blown hg! And as I said earlier I really do hope this works out for you, and luckily it did, I really hate seeing so many sq's meeting their demise due to stupid mistakes like these (stupid mistakes as in this situation, not you pickles!)! Now hopefully there is a lesson learned here and you either fix the fan switch, wire them constant, or at least leave them on if there is a chance that ANYONE other than you has the keys, or at least inform people of this situation wether it seems necessary or not. And Hateful, I don't know that I've been too hateful but I do have an opinion. It seems maybe the mods may have cleaned up one of your post, or maybe you did (thankfully), because there was an absolutely hateful response in this thread earlier that is no longer visible. So in short I'm sorry, I never should have responded to this thread, I didn't understand that this was just venting and you wanted no input. Merry Christmas dude, I'm glad this worked out for you... seriously.
  23. ^couldn't have put it any better. Maybe you came here to vent, but putting your story here is going to get both positive and negative feedback, thats just the way its always been... With me it struck a nerve as I've worked at a few shops over the years and these claims aren't terribly uncommon, people make mistakes on both sides, it isn't always the shops fault, or maybe not completely the shops fault at least.
  24. This is too bad, however I'd doubt they will claim responsibility for this mistake, and really shouldn't have to. As you said the car wasn't in there for any kind of engine or cooling fault, and as no fault was expressed they assumed that it would run as 95% of the cars on the road do and be able to maintain its temperature automatically. Leaving it run was a result of laziness, and something that would never happen in my garage, but if the car was functioning properly nothing would have happened, and how were they to know the fans were on a manual switch if you don't tell them? I trust my car in very few mechanics hands, and when I let them have it I always make sure and give them more info than they may seem to need for reasons exactly like this. Good luck, hopefully this works out for you and they take responsibility for this mistake. At least replacing a head on these cars is a relatively easy job and in this case you'll be able to catch it before further damage to your engine occurs from driving with a leaky hg.
  25. exactly, first you need to prove to them that the car is worth more than they claim if their bid is low. This site is a very useful tool for this, but they are mostly gonna want local cars to comp to. Still this site can help show the value of the parts. Also you can assign a value to used parts in this case if you tell them you found the parts for 'x' dollars. In my case I was offered around 1100... I told the adjuster to find me a reliable car with leather, good paint, power options, that was mechanically sound needing nothing but a driver for that price and we've got a deal, laughed, and told them to come up with a fair settlement. Took a few phone calls but eventually we settled on a reasonable figure. Just remember, the insurance company's job here is to make you satisfied with the least amount of money possible. The people you are negotiating with do this every day, and they're good at it, so be ready to fight! Most people don't push them too hard, once you show them resistance, back it up, and show them that all you want is a fair settlement they will be much more co-operative.
