  1. Anybody got any feedback for me? Is my price too high? I'll take any advice. Thanks
  2. I am offering up for sale my 1987 White TSI with Maroon Leather. Price is now $3500. Car has approximately 87k original miles. Car is factory to the best of my knowledge, has not been modified and has been a daily driver for me. Manual transmission shifts well. a fair amount of work has been done on the car. In the past 1000 or so miles I did an oil change, oil filter, air filter, front alignment, 4 new Conti Extreme contact DWS tires, new front and rear pads, calipers and rotors, front brake hoses. Replaced the e-brake cables, KYB srtut assembly up front, new strut rod bushings and strut mounts, brake master cylinder, fuel filter, battery, front wiper blades. I think I havent forgotten anything. I have most of the receipts for the parts, and some for labor. A/C does not blow cold, I was told by previous owner that a charge would do it, but I have not had anyone do an inspection (its the original R-12). One of the headlights will not go up and down (cleaned the switch). Antennae is broken at base, rear wiper works occasionally, original stereo kinda works. A little rust around the rear wheel well and a small dent/scratch above said wheel well. Interior is in pretty good condition as well as the dash, just usual wear. Car lives in St Louis, Mo and is also being sold locally. If you want it you have to come get it, I can't help you with that. but I could be willing to drive it toward you, but no long hauls. Please ask any questions and I will do my best to answer as completely as I can, I am not really a gear head. Photos are here, just highlight and then open link http://s1093.photobu...?view=slideshow Thanks,Steve
  3. Hey folks selling my 87 Quest in St. Louis, MO $4000 OBO, all the info and ad is on Autotrader, located in 63011 area code. There is one pic on the ad, but I can send others if anyone is interested. Thanks, Steve
  4. I just replaced my battery and now the car had some starting issues. Would crank, but wouldn't turn over. Sometimes it turns, sometimes it doesn't. I tried to start it in the rain the same day I put the battery in and it would not turn over despite many attempts. Also, when I put the accelerator down every time the boost gauge gets to the zero (pressure marking) the engine stalls. I take my foot off the gas, engine comes back to life. Car had occasional starting issues before, but never had this stall. I'm thinking that these things must be related to the battery replacement, anybody have any idea what's going on? Car is stock with 87,000. Thanks, Steve
  5. CHad, Pretty sure it happens on both turns, but am positive it happens on right turns. I will try your advice. If not that, you got any other ideas? Have you heard of this before? Thanks!
  6. Hey all, Got my 87 Quest running well and I thought everything was worked out, but I just noticed something that still isn't right. Some times when I go from a stop and accelerate into a tight turn (intersection, etc)I hear a noise and it feels as though something is rubbing or causing friction. It seems to be coming from the rear. It goes away quickly after straightening out. It was doing something similar before. Someone told me it was the rear caliper that was hung up, but I have since replaced the rear calipers, rotors, brakes and e-brake. I thought that would fix it and it is better, but there is something going on. Anyone had this problem before? Any ideas about what I should maybe check out? I was able to find some different stuff for this problem with other cars, but makes more sense to ask Questers. Thanks for any help, Steve
  7. Hey all, Am finally getting around to the rear e-brake cables on my 87. I've never done this before, any advice or diagrams. I have the e brake page from the FSM printed out. Any tips would be appreciated. I looked around but couldn't find anything on this. Thanks, Steve
  8. Mark, Thanks, I got something going with star240, but if it doesnt work out I will be sure to call you. -Steve
  9. thanks for all the comments, much obliged.
  10. sorry, this probably shouldnt go here, but I couldnt think of a better place to post. For those of you that have shipped wheels (not with tires) how do you package and who do you use? Probably coming from CA to Missouri 63011. Thanks, Steve
  11. None of the folks posting wheels have responded, so I am getting anxious. I have some (2)8j non-shp wheels in average condition that I would like to trade for some (2)7 j in similar condition. I'd like to do a trade. I know pics would help but its cold and snowy, so they will have to wait. Just trying to get a sense of whether anyone would be interested. (Would also take 8j SHP, but don't think anyone would take that trade) Likewise, if you have some for sale (7j) let me know. Thanks, Steve
  12. Bump on the front wheels. Would be awesome to find them locally and avoid shipping charges.
  13. Ruben, thanks for the etiquette. Its all yours, I'm searching for a pair.
  14. Robert, Thanks for all the advice and help. I havent had a chance to read the back of the wheel, but I am pretty confident that you have nailed the problem, thanks again!
  15. So for the average you want 60 per wheel? Will you ship and if so how does that change the price. I'm in 63011. Thanks, steve
  16. I have had no luck locating OEM springs ( and would like to avoid the cost ), but I have acquired shocks. If I just did the shocks and isolators, do you think that would help?
  17. can you specify the size? want to be sure that it is a 7j. Do you have 2 or just the 1. I'm looking for 2. What would shipping to 63011 cost? -Steve
  18. Thanks Robert, big help. I can tell that the 8 on the front is not SHP, I will confirm the offset tomorrow, but I suspect that you are correct. I guess I just need to find a couple 7's or 8 SHP's for the front and then my problem will be solved....? Maybe I don't need to to the springs and such after all.
  19. What size are the front wheels? I live west of STL, might need some 7 (reg) or 8 shp front wheels if you have them.
  20. Rabbit, Thanks for that, that answers my question about what is SHP and non-SHP, but how does one tell a back form a front?
  21. Robert, thank for the input. How can you tell an SHP from non-SHP wheel? Did you see my photos? Is that the same spot where you got your rub? I have tapped that lip in, but it came right back out in a short time. I don't understand why though. I have some spacers in the coils at the moment and that seems to have temporarily fixed the rub. Does that gel with your theory? Thanks, Steve
  22. I've tried pushing the hood down and it doesnt really go down, no bounce to speak of. Is that weird....oh wait, I have some coil spacers in at the moment, so that may have something to do with it.
  23. Hey MidMO, I'm in Ballwin just like your sister. Would hate to have you come all that way just to look at my car, truth be told I'm giving serious thought to putting it up for sale, just too many things popping up. If you happen to come this way though, give me a shout. Another mechanic has seconded the notion that it is the coil springs that need replacing, I'm getting tired and poor.
  24. I had the car aligned recently ( thought with different tires) and they didnt say anything was amiss. Not sure if it moves forward or backward at all. Will look into it.
