  1. yes i got my money back. There was no argument from chad when i asked for my money back, he was very cool about it. from what i understand Dan did not get his money back because he was not the original purchaser of the manifold. It changed hands several times, from what i hear. :-/ Taki
  2. chads MPI vs. Magna MPI, worth the extra $? IMO NO, whew that was much easier...... taki P.s. sometime in the future, if chad puts more time into these things, then its quite possible it would be worth the extra $
  3. actually scotty, i bought chads manifold not too long after i posted the question. I just didint want to say anything, seeing how chad was cool about giving my money back. But chip is right, he shouldnt take it personally, businees is business, and if your product is not good, then people are going to be unhappy. :'( Taki
  4. ok, i wasnt going to say anything further on this subject. But seeing how someones car caught fire after installing chads manifold, ill say my opinion. Whether its the installers or the designers fault. First off, im not in anyway trying to put down chad, hes a great guy, but these are the FACTS as i see them. I purchased chads manifold. This was brand new and NOT a prototype. When i recieved the manifold, i was very dissapointed. There were many areas on the manifold were i was not happy with the quality, workmanship ETC. But im not a very picky person, as long as its functional and has decent quality, im happy. but the manifold was not functional. The holes were the injectors o-ring seat on were still a rough casting. They would need to be smoothened and polished beofre the o-rings would ever have a chance of sealing. The injector rail he sent was not the same one he had posted on his website. Its was NOT straight and the holes like the manifold were not smooth. Furthermore the enite rail would only be secured by one bolt and nut(not a good idea). to put it plainly, if i would have slapped it together it would have leaked, no doubt. So i sent the manifold back, and a few months later after not hearing from chad i called him, and he told me he had fixed the problems but that he had pressured tested it after i sent it back and had found a leak somewhere in a cooling passage. After that i told him to keep the manifold and to give me my money back. the desingn of the manifold is solid, but he needs to work on quality. Not bashing him at all, its the truth and sometimes the truth hurts ,sorry chad. taki
  5. i want to install a quick release steering wheel on my starion. I called momo, and they said that a shop or whatever would have to make the adaptor that bolts to the steering colum, then i could buy the the quick release hub from them. I was told by some one that they make the adaptor for the Eagle talon, and that it fits on the the starion. Can anyone help me out here? thanks taki
  6. tep sells one but its 725 bucks, is that about the going price? knowing tep theyve probably jacked the price way up. Im looking to for a intercooler that has inlet/outlet pointing upwards. i dont necessarily have to get spearco, but it seems to be popular with the mpi guys. thanks taki
  7. SWEET, a hole new forum dedicated to MPI swaps. ;D Man this has turned into a touchy topic, he he. Keep the good info coming guys. taki
  8. good to see some numbers mike. Im not suprised about the horse power issue. When i first saw the magna intake, my first thought was that 90 degree bend that the air has to go through. IMO you can have a gigantic plenum, but that bend plus the size of runners is going to restrict no matter what. Whether its causing your low hp numbers is anyones guess, but thats how i see it. after reading through the posts regarding chads intake vs. magna, and seeing your numbers ive decided to go with chads. thanks again for posting the dyno numbers. taki
  9. i was looking at the magna intake, and it seems like it would be still somewhat restrictive, where the manifold turns in towards the head. im sure its a whole better than stock though. Chads intake seems like it would be more better suited for racing applications, which im looking for. so chads intake would be around $600 more than the magna? Please keep us posted Quest 4 power, id love to see how it comes out. taki
  10. Im going to run a 19c turbo, is chads intake worth the extra money? what horse power numbers can i expect to get with the magna and 19c? chads intake flows more than the magna, but how much? I went to the magna site, and most of it is under construction. thanks
  11. i was just curious, with the SDS +MSD setup,. i want to get rid of as much stuff as possible. The stock ECU and ignitor are the only components which can be eliminated? Is there any other component that is needed to run with the SDS? thanks
  12. hmmm, so i cant run my 19c over 12 psi without extra injectors or MPI swap? could you eleborate a little more. your saying the stock injectors arent capable of keeping up with the 19c at 12 psi or higher.? taki
  13. The spring would get in the way with a ten inch rim(plus a wide tire). You can get a 275 size tire to fit on the 9 inchers, thats pretty big. even with that im sure you would have to have coil overs.
  14. you can do that, also i was thinking about using grommets in the stock mounting tabs on the shock, that way the line doesnt rub against bare metal. I didnt have mine secured in anyway, and didint have any problems. Probably better to secure them though. I like them and i think the quality is very good. hey are u still making those lines? i wanted to get the SS coolant lines that run to the turbo. later taki
  15. i have the GC's installed. And im wondering whats going to happen the first time the car catches a little air. The car doesnt even have to catch air for the spring cap to lower down from the top. Might come back down and not seat properly. I havent seen anybody mention it, but i think its a pretty good thing to be concerned about. Anybody have any thoughts? taki
  16. I think the stock rotors provide plenty friction surface. They are not that wide, but they are plenty thick. I plan on making my starion a full out race car(only race it on the track), so i think having better brakes is a must. Even if there was only a kit for the front, that would be fine, seeing as 75% of braking action occurs in the front anyways. I want to keep the stock rims, so changing the rotors for larger ones would not be an option for me. taki
  17. This topic has been moved to [link=http://www.starquestclub.com/cgi-bin/starquest.pl?board=enginemods;action=display;num=1026456566;start=0]Engine Mods[/link] by Ernie88TSi.
  18. Ok, putting better brakes on a starquest is harder than i thought it would be >. Scratch the mercedes calipers idea, its soooo close to working, but not close enough. The IMSA starion has Willwood 4 piston calipers on all four corners. Ok, so theres generally two types of parking brakes, rotors with minature drums inside of them, for instance mercedes uses these, and calipers that turn when the parking brake is pulled, like starquests. So how did they manage doing it on the IMSA starion? Does anyone know if willwood makes a kit for starquests. Theres got to a way for a reasonable amount of money to do this. taKI
  19. I was on TEP's site, and i noticed the white race starion at the bottom of the page only has 1 wiper, or maybe im just blind? didnt notice it till you mentioned the single blade idea. I was comparing the winshield's on my 83, with a mercedes 300E. The only thing that might be a major problem is if the height of the starquest winshield is smaller than 300E. Becuase as the wiper goes across the winshield on the 300E it extends, sort of like a jabbing motion. So at the very center of the windshield the wiper might jab the seal. I havent taken any actual measurements, but i will. I think its a pretty good idea, kind of original. As far as mounting it, the 300E wiper motor is mounted by 2 nuts , 2 bolts and a clip. So you would have to bolt or weld the clip bracket on the starion. Next time i have a wiper housing apart ,ill take a picture for you. taki
  20. I work for an independent mercedes repair shop. So im constantly coming across free stuff. For instance, i replaced two bosch fuel pumps on an 89 560 sL mercedes. The pumps were perfectly good, but being that most people that drive mercedes have got the bucks, the lady wanted it done for "safety" reasons. Anyways the braking systems on mercedes have always been very good. They have to be, to stop a heavy german tank. I think that it might be possible use theyre calipers. I have two double piston rear calipers that are good, and it looks like it might fit, possibly with an adaptor bracket. The 4 piston calipers might work for the front, might take a little more work. The only badside would be that the parts if purchased brand new, would be expensive. But the quality of the parts are good. Anyways this is some thing ive thought for a long time and i just wanted other peoples opinon's. thanks taki
