  1. No. I don't believe there ever was such a thing. There is a bad aftermarket turbo on my 88 that was there when I bough it. The guy gave me what was supposed to be the "stock" 12a turbo for the car. In order to get the car running I need a turbo ... and I was trying to figure out why the one I have in my basement didn't look it was going to bolt up right even though it's a 12a. Now I see what's going on, it's for a non-intercooled.
  2. Housings? Both the exhaust and compressor housings, or just the compressor?
  3. Wow, thanks alot. Those two pictures helped a ton. I did search on Google images for TDo5-12a and got like 4 results ... and they all sucked. Ok, so this leads to my next question ... I obviously have a non-intercooled turbo. Can I make that work or do I need the FMIC 12a turbo?
  4. Ok, I'm a little confused. I got my manifold (thanks Polarisman14) and I have a 12a turbo the guy sold me with the car. But I swear looking at this thing with the manifold the compressor outlet is going to point the wrong way (toward the intake manifold, not the passenger fender). And, the service manual shows it pointing both ways .. one way on page 11-9 and another on 11-12. Am I missing something? Can someone post up a pic of their OEM 12a, or even a close up installed on a car? I know the housings can be rotated, I've done that before, but I don't think it'll work with the internal wastegate.
  5. Thanks. I will check out those switches. Hopefully that's the problem
  6. swts = switches? I'm assuming there's a plunger in the door on each side you're referring to. Fuse ... is that fuse located in the box just above the hood release? I looked in there, but didn't see anything that was clearly marked "Auto Seat Belts".
  7. So I've been using the search button to learn what I can about the automatic seat belts. I see there is a brainbox behind/under the radio. And I've read some great posts about how to grease the motors by the rear seat and the track/mouse that runs up through the door. I've also read in a post that there's supposed to be a beeping when you open the door and you should hear a motor? When you open the doors in my car, nothing happens. No beeping, no motor grinding sounds, just nothing. I checked the brainbox, it's plugged in. The mouse doesn't move by hand on either side, so I don't think there's a problem with the track/teeth. It almost seems as if they are disengaged. Is there a fuse somewhere for these or a wiring harness plug someone might have pulled apart? Just looking for a beginning to troubleshooting this problem. I had a 91 GSX w/ auto belts, but I never had a problem with them, so this is all kinda new.
  8. Bump ... still hoping for a set of these.
  9. Well, I definitely confirmed today, someone cut off the flange, and rotated it 90 degrees to make the flange match up with the aftermarket turbo they put on. I doubt I'll be able to have it cut back off, and rewelded in the original OEM location due to how piss-poor it looks. So, I think I'm going to have to track one down, cracked or not, and go from there. When I actually take it off, I'll post up a pic so you guys can see what this person did.
  10. Well I obviously don't know if it's cracked or not b/c I haven't taken it off yet, but what I meant by "hack job" in my original post was I can tell looking at it that someone cut off the flange and welded it back on in a different position to account for the aftermarket turbo that is on the car, which I am eliminating. (going back to a stock turbo for now). Problem is they did a crappy job - looks like a "new welder in the back of his garage" job. So, I'd bet my next paycheck that's where the leak is. I'm working on the car Friday, so I'll figure out how bad the manifold is then. Maybe I'll throw up a pic and see what you guys think. I was trying to do my homework ahead of time b/c I think it's going to be a lost cause.
  11. So, I posted up in the B.S. section last week that I just purchased my first Quest and one of the issues with this car is that it has an exhuast leak at the manifold/turbo. I was looking at it closer the other day, and although I can't quite tell, I looks like someone did a hack job on the manifold flange b/c I can see some welding. I can't quite see whats going on until I take the turbo off, but my guess is that that is my leak. Anyway, I'm thinking it might just be best to replace the manifold with a new OEM one. I see the DAD's website sells one, but it's like 270 bucks. And there's a cracked one in the F/S section for 10 bucks. I can't find one anywhere else. So ... the question ... for those of you who have been around ... is this typically a difficult part to find? Is the 270 from DAD worth it for a new one? Do most people go right to an aftermarket one? (I saw one on eBay with a external wastegate mount).
  12. Sorry ... forgot to mention I'm looking for them in leather.
  13. This Starquestjoe picnic must be a famous thing around here, b/c I got invited to this last year when I first joined the board and I didn't even own a Starquest yet! Lol. I'm definitely interested. I'd love to meet some guys who know these cars inside out and pick their brains. When is it?
  14. Immediate plans are: -fix the issues with the motor and get it running better ... power steering, exhuast leaks and turbo "issues", and whatever else I haven't quite sorted out yet. -Correct what I can of the interior for now. Over the winter: Pull the front valiance and repair/repaint Pull motor, replace all gaskets, thoroughly check everything over. I'll probably repaint the engine bay while its out. As far as mods go ... not sure. Don't want to go too crazy b/c I already have the DSM ... might just leave it stock and show it. Maybe some light bolt ons.
  15. Here's the pics I promised. I'm new to these cars, so feedback (good and bad) is welcome. http://a.imageshack.us/img651/5715/dsc01963k.jpg http://a.imageshack.us/img651/6304/dsc01962j.jpg http://a.imageshack.us/img651/3268/dsc01957o.jpg http://a.imageshack.us/img651/6530/dsc01959f.jpg http://a.imageshack.us/img651/5461/dsc01958l.jpg And here's one of my 99 4G63 as requested. This pic is 2 years old, engine doesn't look like that anymore. It's heavily modded though, I promise. It's my garage baby. 52k original miles. Never seen a winter. http://a.imageshack.us/img651/4774/carshow08.jpg
  16. Picture is decieving. Someone replaced the dash with a tan one. The rest of the interior is the maroon. So, eventually I'll probably want to swap the dash back to a maroon one to keep the car original as possible, for now I'm going to have to live with it like that. I'm already anticipating finding a decent dash is going to be difficult. Thanks for the props though.
  17. Cool. Thanks man, I appreicate it.
  18. Thanks everyone! As you can probably tell from my sig I'm a DSM guy, I've owned several of them over the past 10 and still have a 99 that's completely built. So, I'm not a car noob. I just sold my 91 GSX to get this car ... I think owning a Quest is a natural progression for any diehard DSM guy. I kinda see these cars as where it all started. And, yes, it has the maroon interior. The 88-89 version is not as "bad" as the 87 and down IMO. Here's one quick pic ... I'll put some more in the gallery this afternoon. It needs a bath, the guy a mile long dirt driveway.
  19. So if I am understanding the post correctly ... a water-cooled version of the TC05 is not that much different than a TD05 other than the shorter bearings with the snap rings.
  20. So, I've been doing my research on these cars and I see there is a TC05-12a and a TD05-12a. It looks like the TC was used on the earlier cars (83-85?) and the TD on the later cars(86-89). What's the difference? I was looking at the turbo reference chart in the FAQ's, but it doesn't say anything about any Mitsu TC turbos.
  21. Like is says, need an OEM accordain style intake tube. Mine's ripped
  22. Kinda odd, but looking for 2 halo style headrests, driver and passenger Maroon/Red in color.
  23. I joined this board about a year ago after becoming interested in these cars, threw up a couple posts intitally and have kinda been lurking in the background ever since - mostly in the "cars for sale" section and generally educating myself. So, over the past year I've driven all over the TriState area looking at a lot of different Quest's ... ranging from really nice to full restore .... and ..... well, I finally bought one. I know, I know, a post like this is no good without pics, I'll throw some up tomorrow after I take some. White 88, 5spd, super straight body, no rust, interior needs some work (don't they all). Need to repair power steering (currently not working) and find the exhuast leak in/around turbo. That's about it. Drove her home today.
