ovenfresh
Hey everybody, tried searching for rear end info or wheel bearings or humming noises, and as of yet can't find any info. Sounds like a hum or whining noise coming from passenger side rear wheel area. Was wondering if anyone could give me some info on what to look for before I start tearing into it. Or any info that may allready be on here. The noise gets worse as I accelerate. Thanks.

Cobalt60
I suppose a wheel could be horribly balanced...
19cturbo
that would cause more of a thump or vibration than a hum, does it change at different speeds? Edited October 29, 2009 by 19cturbo

ovenfresh
Yah, just got new tires and the noise was there before I got the new tires. It seems like its only the passenger side and does change as I accelerate, kind of gets louder.

Edde
I would use a $5 stethoscope from harbor freight or a broom handle or something to listen at different spots while the wheels are turning. Put the back end off the ground and cruise. Could be internal differential, wheel bearings, halfshaft CV joint, or brakes. New tires shouldn't do that. BIL
Any chance it could be a bent rim? My hum is from a bent rim.
Cobalt60
So just to clarify, are the wheels balanced?
ovenfresh
Ok its def. the wheel bearings, pulled the axle from the spindle and you can definitely feel the pain. Haven't yet pulled the spindle off or apart hope there's nothing else in there that can get stiff and farked up. Thanks everybody for the input. ovenfresh
Forgot one question. Anybody know where to get the best bearings, or quality of aftermarket ones like beck/arnley? Or anything similar. Thanks
Edde
I'd be more focused on removing the beraing from that spindle when you get there. Not happening without some special tools or rig.
Shelby
your most likely going to have to take the shaft to a machine shop to get the brg off and a new one back on ,, and read up on how to do this in the FSM before you get start'd on the job
