Oxide
I took the dash out a while ago and just got around to installing the boost gauge in the stock location. I was just wondering where everyone gets their power from. I want to wire it so it'll come on when I turn the lights on. Also, on the cluster harness, there is a purple wire with a lug on it (ground?) that I can't remember where I took it off of. Oh, one more thing. should I just drill a hole into the engine bay for the vacuum hose or is there a better way to route it? Thanks in advance. Run the Vacuum hose through the grommet for the Speedo Cable. CALIBER
livesTSI
I tapped into an illumination wire at the cluster, i believe it was green/white. Just use a test light to check for it. I wouldnt bother drilling a hole, i just went through the factory grommet near the center of the firewall. *Cal. Youre fast. lol* Edited July 6, 2008 by livesTSI

mikec
Purple? That's not a wire color used on StarQuests as far as I know. It doesn't appear on the "Instrument Circuit" diagrams in the factory manuals either. StarQuest factory wire colors in the instrument panel area are: Black, Gray, Light blue, Red, Brown, Blue, Orange, Yellow, Green, light Green, Pink, and White. Any chance it's one of those? If not, got any aftermarket stuff in your car: air/fuel guage, stereo, etc. mike c.

The car is stock, no radio, boost controller or anything else. http://i105.photobucket.com/albums/m231/Oxidious/harness1.jpg
mikec
That looks like the wire comes from the harness that plugs into one of the two connectors for the cluster switches on either side of the instrument panel. Is that correct? If so, what are the other wire colors on that yellow and white connector - in order - so I can trace it on the factory diagrams. Give me BOTH sides of the connector too: the wire harness side and the side going to whatever part this connector feeds. And where does the other end of that harness bundle seem to go as it exits off the bottom/right of your photo? If it does go to one of the cluster switches then the wire colors can be anything - the factory manuals only specify the wire colors of the wire harness side of the connectors. mike c. Oxide
Ok, I took a few more pictures and wrote down the wiring sequence of the connector. These are just for reference: http://i105.photobucket.com/albums/m231/Oxidious/car002.jpg http://i105.photobucket.com/albums/m231/Oxidious/car003.jpg http://i105.photobucket.com/albums/m231/Oxidious/car004.jpg http://i105.photobucket.com/albums/m231/Oxidious/car005.jpg Here is the connector that the following runsheet goes to: http://i105.photobucket.com/albums/m231/Oxidious/car006.jpg This part is for the top connector going to the Gauge cluster from left to right. Slot 1 - Green/Yellow, Blue/Red Slot 2 - Brown/White Slot 3 - Green/White Slot 4 - Black/Red, Purple Slot 5 - Light Green, Light Green/Yellow, Yellow/Red Slot 6 - Red/Black This part is for the bottom connector going into the main harness from left to right. Slot 1 - Green/Yellow, Blue/Red Slot 2 - White/Yellow Slot 3 - Green/White Slot 4 - Yellow/White, Black/Red Slot 5 - Green, Yellow/Red Slot 6 - Red/Black I hope this is in a format you can understand. Caliber308
Your making to much out of this!!!! White to Green/White wire to light the Boost gauge. P.S. It's not under the hood!!! It's on the wiring harness, behind your gauge cluster. Pin no. 3. Tap into that wire for lighting your Boost gauge.
