Nice list. I think only the 4 cyinder gear fit the starion. Looks like we have another source for the hard to find 4.22 with the 2.4 montero sport. StarquestRescue
I edited my first post. A lot of good info here guys. Sam put some time into that. RIGHT CLIC AND SAVE. For you 4cyl truck guys the posi you want is found in the 4cyl monteros, it's a easy swap on to your ring gear. The bigger v6 rear axle from a mighty max should swap in to a 4cyl truck as well. TurboRaider
Nice list. I think only the 4 cyinder gear fit the starion. Looks like we have another source for the hard to find 4.22 with the 2.4 montero sport. Gen 1 Monteros and Raiders with a 4 cyl engine use rear diff gears that are the same size as the large Starion diff. Gen 1 Montero / Raider with the V6: The gears in the front match up to the large Starion diff. 87-90 Monteros came with 4.62 gears. 86 and older with the 3 speed auto have should have 4.22 gears. 4.875 for the early Monteros are very rare and were part of the high altitude package. As far as I know they are no longer availible. 5.28 gears can be gotten from Australia. The best used 4.62 gears are from the front of a V6 Gen 1. Since the 4wd is part time the gears will have almost no wear on them. Kevin C Edited April 4, 2008 by TurboRaider

IntercooledFlatty
do all of these fit the quest diff?
jd_stazza_brendan
I know for sure that the 4.6 Gears fit inside the Large diff housing. My mate runs a 4.6 locked centre in his car. Mind you its in Australia, if that makes any difference. Edited April 7, 2008 by jd_stazza_brendan
Komeuppance
Here's what a local D50 guy and I measured, confirming that the 4bolt Starion diffs are more narrow than a MightyMax diff. -Robert
Shelby
you can't use the carriers but you can use the ring and pinion gears ,, thats what the list is for ring and pinion gear sets ...........not the complete carrier i've done 3 sets of 3'90 swaps and did not have to change any shim spaceing at all thats not saying that will be the case for all gear swaps
Komeuppance
Yeah, this thread is about info on mitsu rear diffs. I was confirming that the starion carrier is narrow, as there was some speculation and no solid answers, until we measured it and posted pictures. -Robert
