mrb1
Some people may recall me talking about this turbo in http://www.starquestclub.com/index.pl?boar...;num=1083957539 Ok I have finally fitted the Ralliart TD06-19C and manifold and WOW Â ;D My horsepower has increased by somewhere around (I say around because the previous best with the TD05 was 180HP and the test was done in 4th gear) 40HP at the wheels with NO other changes other than to connect the different exhaust flange. I'm running a ported Magna head, Camtech cam (Camtech is an Australian cam company), full 3" exhaust, standard ECU, standard airflow meter. Being an engineer I decided to do some data logging to see what the difference was between the turbos. See graphs below. Due to my limited budget I purchased low cost DAQ gear that could only sample at about 6-8 samples a second that's why the graphs have steps but the info is still there to see. There is no RPM trace on the graphs so I added some RPM markers. See dyno chart below. Note it is making 221 HP on only 13 psi. http://starion.mrbdesign.com.au/images/widedynoA.jpg NOTE: TDO5 was "high flowed" and fitted with a Garrett compressor wheel by previous owner. Turbine side was untouched. http://starion.mrbdesign.com.au/images/TD05T3.jpg http://starion.mrbdesign.com.au/images/MRC_Run1small.jpg http://starion.mrbdesign.com.au/images/enginebayT.jpg The main difference between the turbos was: 1) Reduction of exhaust manifold backpressure by 0.5 bar (7.25 psi) @ 6000 RPM!!!! Uncorked!!!! 2) Reduction in compressor outlet temperature of approx 20 degrees C Note: this is with a lot higher airflow as well. Another discovery is the major restriction between the turbo outlet and the inlet manifold. There is about a 3.8 psi pressure drop through the TBI (with 220HP airflow) noted as "A" in the graph. The engine wants to really rev now pulls hard to 6500 RPM even with the boost dropping off as shown in the graphs. Note the wastegate is connected to the "hard pipe" so keeps the pressure constant there.
Dcrasta
Wow thats some important info there. Im glad your getting good #s U can add a 1gen DSM turbo mas (start with a stock one and start removing the waffle cones to see if it improves your respons.. I took them completely out of mine and the car runs great).
Boosted_One
GREAT info! ! ! 8)
mrb1
I added this graph because it has RPM on the bottom. Also slightly more boost. Wastegate hose was relocated to the inlet manifold from the cross-over pipe. This maintains boost better at the top end due to the pressure drop of the restrictive TBI. Note: abrupt roll off at the end is the dyno operator backing off at exactly 6500 RPM not the engine! http://starion.mrbdesign.com.au/images/widebody_mrc_dyno2A.jpg
mrb1
Ok more progress. HKS EBCIV fitted and boost increased to 17psi and pod air filter fitted (no airflow meter) plus I installed an old Haltech F3 I had laying around. Magna MPI coming soon! http://starion.mrbdesign.com.au/images/widedyno245.jpg Dyno shop is MRC Dyno located in Sydney Australia. http://starion.mrbdesign.com.au/images/MRC_small2.jpg
JustPaus_88TSi
Outstanding! Â That's a nice power jump for +4psi.. Congrats.. How much torque are you putting down? I'd have to guess that it's over 320 at the wheels..
Boosted_One
That quite a nice jump in power for doing just a few little things! Totally cool! The larger exhaust housings are starting to show better gains with only small low end losses. You put MPI on and youculd be seeing 300 RWHP out of a 19C...that is pretty damn good! mrb1
Booted_one yes I'm pretty happy so far. Not sure it will hold together at 300rwhp I have no idea about whats in the bottom end? Plus I think I am just about to run out of fuel so will go up carefully. Not even sure what fuel pump it has (stock?). Anyhow step by step. Have to buy more sensors for the datalogger! 3" MAF going on soon (only to log not for ECU) so I can get actual VE numbers between TBI and Magna. Interestingly with the restrictions (TBI, etc) it was running about 22 psi at the turbo to give 16 psi in the manifold. JustPaus_88TSi yes I will try and get a torque graph but the run is in 3rd gear not sure how useful that is. Do you guy's think you could get 300rwhp with the stock intercooler? artinist
now if we could go back in time and kidnap the idiot in charge at mitsu and make him put these parts on in the first place. or at least make them availalbe as upgrade through the dealer. For real! A TDO5-12A has no business being on a G54B... hell even look at the 4g63 getting a 14B stock and now there seeing 16G stock. A 1.6L I could see an 05-12A but not on such a large 4 cylinder.
