Using Imgur for image hosting

This guide is more geared for those looking to upload directly from their phones as I think that's how most of you are getting your pictures/videos these days.

  1. Download the Imgur app from the App Store/Play store
  2. Once installed, launch it, and it'll ask for an account. If you have one already, sign in. If not, make one. Don't forget your password.
  3. Once signed in, tap the "+" icon to upload an image/video
  4. At the next page, there should be a green button asking for permission to view your photos. Tap it to grant the Imgur app permission to your phone's storage
  5. Now you should see your pictures/videos in the app. Select them, then tap "Next"
  6. At the final page, it will ask for a title, which is optional. Enter one if you want
    1. If you're uploading a video, there should now be a crossed-out speaker icon in the top-right. Tap that to UNMUTE your video if you wish
  7. Tap Upload in the top-right to upload it to Imgur
  8. Once it's finished uploading, there should be a green notification. Tap that to view your post
    1. If it's not there, just tap the profile icon in the bottom-right to see all of your account's uploads
  9. Open your picture/video (if not opened already), then long-press it and tap "Copy Post Link" (or "Copy URL" from the Android app)
  10. Paste the link directly into your post here on the forum

If your link ends with .png/.jpg (the file type), the new forum software should pick up on it and automatically embed your picture in your post. This unfortunately does not seem to work for Imgur videos (yet).

Thought I'd update this with the steps for us normal computer users, too:

  1. Log into/create an account here: https://imgur.com/
  2. From your profile icon at the top, go to Images

  3. Drag and drop your images, or copy/paste them

  4. Finally, click the image(s) you just uploaded, then copy the Direct Link (the one containing the file extension) to paste here

For videos, the steps as of writing are a bit different:

  1. From your profile icon/section at the top, go to your Posts
    EvU6vei.png?1
  2. Just like with images, click+drag your video onto the page, but you will get prompted to either keep or strip the audio. Click to keep the audio (if desired) to continue

    1. If you try to do this from the Images page, it will automatically remove the audio without giving you a prompt
  3. In my experience using Firefox on Windows, Imgur sometimes won't tell you when the video has finished uploading. The upload time varies based on the file size and your internet, obviously. If you aren't sure it has completed, give it a couple of minutes, then refresh the page to see if your video is there.
  4. Once it's done, open the video if it isn't already. If you kept the audio, there should be a speaker icon somewhere. Click that to unmute the video and verify it has audio
  5. Next, right-click the video, then click Copy Video Link to get the direct link

    1. Alternatively, you can go to you Images as outlined above to copy the Direct Link
  6. You should be able to paste the link into your post now like so, but as of writing, it will not be embedded:
