Keoni1113
Hi all, I'm currently not getting any spark for starting my 87 starion. Replaced both the knock box and whole distributor. Thinking of replacing the ECI relay up above in the kick panel just above the ECU itself. There is someone near me willing to give me his out of his 86 Conquest, my question is are these interchangeable? I looked on rockauto and it seems that way but I want to be sure before having him waste his time taking his car apart.
ucw458
They are interchangeable but a volt meter will tell you more than just swapping parts. Check your ECI fuse link first. Check for power getting to the relay and to the knock box.

vbrad511
Was the new knock box actually known to be good? It's not out of the question to think you might've gotten a bad one. Got another car you can test it on? Have you changed/cleaned all the fusible links?
Keoni1113
Fuse links were cleaned shortly before, my problems's started right after I changed the vac advance. You can read a little more about it in the post I made a while ago. Keoni1113
Just got the car back, turns out the mechanic didn't actually change anything. All the parts I brought him are sealed in the boxes
Keoni1113
... Huh this isn't good, it seems that the mechanic not only did not do use the parts I got him he also left it I pieces. The kick panel and glove box were taken out and the ECI and main relay are hanging out, along with a relay just sitting on the floor. It ink stampings that read E8T08471, The out side is also covered in some sort or black felt. Where the he'll does this go? It doesn't seem to plug into any if the plugs that are here? http://imgur.com/a/YTexW http://imgur.com/yttjqwb Edited November 13, 2015 by Keoni1113
ucw458
The large square unit still plugged in is the ECI relay. The rectangular unplugged one looks like the blower relay. It bolts to the blower motor iirc. The padding is for vibration/noise dampening.
vbrad511
The thing you'll find out is these cars are a breed of their own, as far as electrical and fuel systems go. Even when they were new most dealers didn't WANT to mess with the repairs, because their mechanics didn't understand them. You won't find a qualified SQ mechanic out there who doesn't own one. Your best bet is to buy a basic set of tools, keep coming here, and don't be afraid to get dirty.
Keoni1113
So I found on the side of the mystery relay some grease pen that reads "93 2.4 mitsu" and after a little digging it seems to be from another car entirely. Most likely for a Lancer Evo from what I found out the evo forums. Maybe the mechanic was experimenting. Either way that is one mystery solved.
