Nice condition, strong running conquest black on black. This was the top of the line (fully equipped model) with the performance package (adjustable suspension and wider rims) from the final year of this cars production. I've owned the car for almost 20 years so I know its history. Its been garaged but does show some normal wear for its age.

It has 165k miles. The owner said it has been maintained well and it runs strong. All original except for a left quarter panel which was repaired and painted in 1998 due to a fender bender. A/C doesn't work. He purchased the car back in 1994 with 30K miles directly from the original owner. The car still has the SHP struts and he replaced one of them at one point. No rust. Its a true solid Florida car. Edited by dmdvzla

I suppose the market will determine that. I can't see spending that much money and not having AC. If your market analysis is correct, the seller could spend <$1K on fixing the AC and make money. The parts are not really that bad compared to new cars, It's likely the labor & finding someone that will work on a car that old.

I think the price is just. If the A/C was working and all the mechanics are in good condition, then that would be a $6500-7000 car all day long.

Just curious if you have ever paid 7 grand for any Colt Starquest? I am just asking I know personally what I have paid for the ones I own and while the one I have now needs work. I think you could buy a 6-7 grand quest and it still would need work so why spend 6 grand and then have to put another grand or so it when you could buy one for 2 grand with the same miles and have to work through the issues on your own and you learn a lot more. Even with the repaint and the work I have in it I doubt it would come to 4500 and I have a lot fresher car then that one when said and done. I have no idea what he sold it for and it looks like a nice ride but why spend that kind of money only to have to work on the car anyway? Some of the ones I have seen all original with low mile Starquests that have brought 9-10 grand have to have work done to them as well. The cars are 25+ years old by now, and I think if people are spending 6-8 grand thinking they will have a perfect driving Starquest need to realize that the car is 25 years old and things will break if they are not band aid together already.

I agree with your point. These machines are in fact 25+ year old....and yes! they will need work and maintenance (oh! and will they...) ; but isn't that the case with any old/antique or collectable car?...and even sometimes the reality of brand new exotic cars? On the other side of the car spectrum there are cars that are selling for thousands, hundreds even millions of dollars.....and my bet, these new owners will also spend more money on these cars either by fixing them or by personalizing them. Many times I watch on the Velocity network on cable TV, some of the series/auctions that are always on.....and I get amazed on how much money a car can bring. It is beautiful!....is like watching people compete over a rare peace of art work...a Picasso, a Monet if you will.

In my opinion the value lays on 1st the condition of the car. (doesn't matter if you will do more work to the car, but ;to start with a clean canvas makes all the difference in the world) For sure you can start your restoration project with a rusty StarQuest that cost you $500. Sure, you will have fun during the restoration in the years it will take you to finish it...and don't get me wrong; with taste; it will come out great!....but, everyone knows that you will spend much more money restoring a car than to buy one that is already in great condition and just do a few touches here and there . The fact is that you will loose 70% of the money you spend fixing a car, because at the time of sale; you will never gain those funds back into your pockets. As a car enthusiast, at the most you will be left with the gratification that you finalized the project and that you enjoyed it while it lasted. the 2nd factor is rarity. Call me a romantic, but I truly believe that as time goes by, less and less of these cars will be in existence.....and from that total, only a few will be true honest cars. Ask yourself, how many Starquests are in existence here in the U.S today?.....1000 units maybe?....from perhaps close to 80k units that were originally produced for this market. So, to own a car that is limited; that's worth money! I'm not talking only about Starquests, but any car that has true personality and the Oh! factor. As a Starquest owner, you have to think and believe that you have a diamond (a polished one or a diamond in the rough....but at the end, a diamond) We as owners, need to have this view about our cars, so their value will always go up or at the very least remain the same. Other wise, our cars will not be any different from a Ford Pinto in the eyes of others in the car world.....which I conclude as my 3rd point.

Was not really talking about rust buckets since my car does not have an ounce of rust on it, just looks like a huge difference from what these cars bring on craigslist or the open market vs. what you all think the cars are worth. To me the Starion is much rarer than the Conquest and I have only owned one Conquest vs. 2 Starions. I agree the nicer the original car you start with the nicer the end product but I have even thought about clearing my car cause I kind of like the beater paint that is in on old muscle cars so why not a older Starion. I have antique tags on the car so it costs me 20 bucks forever for unlimited tags that never expire. I have seen a few Starquests sell for 7-9 grand and I even offered a guy 9500 for one and would have bought it but in the end I am happy with my sub 2 grand car and working out the issues myself. It runs better than the other Starquests, I have owned and probably better than some of the 6-8 grand ones since it already had the NJV installed, blow off valve and new parts on it. These cars are cool and I like them but they have their issues and for me, I would rather spend money fixing it to original condition than to buy a 6-8 grand Starquest to start with. That gets into my 99 Miata hardtop territory or what you could buy a newer MPI car which is a lot easier to work on and fix.
