NikoFab
any idea when shipping will start Just as soon as possible sir. Received the wrong length flush bolts...waiting on the right length to get here.
NikoFab
Received this email from 316 Racing (the company that makes the custom flush mount bolts that I use) this morning... Hi Nick, I'm going to go ahead and ship the washers back to you. Sorry for the mix up on the bolts...they sent you the M6 X 20mm because that's what we carry in stock. The M6 X 25mm are a custom length. I've already placed the manufacture order for them...should be roughly two weeks to get them to your door. I'll also change the invoice specs for your PayPal records. Call me with any questions. Tim
NikoFab
I should have the correct bolts in hand next week guys...then I'll start making the dual center supports for your orders. After those are done, it's time to ship! For those of you with balances due, please get with me as soon as you're able. Cheers,Nick

NikoFab
Must be getting close.... Getting very close sir! I feel like I've neglected you guys. On the other gp runs of these, I always posted pics of the process. I don't know, I just like sharing the process with you guys, especially since these are truly custom made one at a time. I've just been so darn busy trying to wrap up the airdam gp, that I've been a slacker. So here's a few pics of your gp in the process! NikoFab
Here's a shot of the mounting brackets right after hydro-cutting on the water jet. These are a very nice grade 20g mill-finished steel. I chose this grade because it's thickness promotes a strong mount, but it's still pliable enough to deal with any vibration at speed. I also had the steel slotted along the two long support edges so it's forgiving during installation and flexes as needed until you get it bolted down tight...then it holds like a pit bull. http://www.nikofab.com/uploads/3/2/3/6/3236317/7659212_orig.jpg
NikoFab
Well I'm sure you saw all that rust on the previous picture...that's the downfall of high quality steel...it will start rusting pretty quickly. To take care of that, I drop all the pieces into a phosphoric acid bath which cleans them up very nicely. All the foam you see is a result of the chemical reaction taking place. http://www.nikofab.com/uploads/3/2/3/6/3236317/8027123_orig.jpg Edited July 2, 2014 by NikoFab
NikoFab
After the acid bath, each piece gets soaked and agitated in hot water. This removes any of the slimy-ness caused by the acid bath. After the water they get soaked in acetone to ensure a super clean, super smooth surface. You can see in this pic how well the acid bath works. http://www.nikofab.com/uploads/3/2/3/6/3236317/211344_orig.jpg Edited July 2, 2014 by NikoFab
NikoFab
This is the part of the process that I don't think I've ever shared with anybody yet. It's kinduv funny when you think about it, but each piece then goes into the oven at 450 degrees for fifteen minutes. This is done to make sure the pieces are absolutely dry before taking primer. The greenish color you see on them in this pic is the "slime" I mentioned before caused by the acid bath. I'll post some more pics in an hour or so when I get back inside and dump them onto my computer. http://www.nikofab.com/uploads/3/2/3/6/3236317/3948552_orig.jpg Edited July 2, 2014 by NikoFab
NikoFab
The way I'm posting right now makes it seem like this process only takes a couple hours. On the contrary, the mounting brackets alone took about four weeks from start to finish. A lot of that has to do with the fact that I work about seventy hours a week. Anyway, after baking, the brackets go to primer. I use Matrix Systems for those of you who want to know...the same brand Mark used to paint my '86 and that I'm using to paint my CBR. Once primed they air-cool on the rack over night and then back into the oven a few days later. http://www.nikofab.com/uploads/3/2/3/6/3236317/3003730_orig.jpg http://www.nikofab.com/uploads/3/2/3/6/3236317/8909484_orig.jpg
NikoFab
Here's a bonus for the day...the bolts finally came in! Rock and roll time! I'll get to fabbing up the dual center supports pretty quick. http://www.nikofab.com/uploads/3/2/3/6/3236317/9922775_orig.jpg
