19cturbo
I did have to widen the hole a bit. The 2jz plugs are a little bigger than the 1jz ones. Just FYI...19c doesn't know everything..... ;) speaking of not knowing everything, i knew what you were trying to say and you didnt.. so ill help you out a little.. since i know so little. jtmuncher
This is what I am planning on using on the trans tunnel. I am going to grind down the chisel flat...in theory it should make quick work of it. We will see... in the meant time, anyone have a clean gas tank and sender available? I removed mine last month and it was completely fubar. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v440/leche1103/null_zpsd66114e6.jpg
19cturbo
bottle jack is way easier.. i used a air hammer on some parts of mine and it took more effort than using the jack..plus the jack is more controlled..
jtmuncher
Got the tunnel opened up...hopefully its enough. It now measures 11" at the opening and 10, maybe 10-1/4" midways in. I didn't have a bottle jack and I left the air chisel at work. I used a cheapo scissor jack I had sitting in the garage. I ground down the rod that went thru the nut on the end and slapped on a 19mm socket over it. I used a 3/8" air ratchet on it...took literally 15 minutes to do it this way. Also removed the crap from under the pass side dash, ecu and engine harness. Also ordered my flywheel last week. Who knows maybe I can get the motor in next weekend. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v440/leche1103/null_zpsedb54d3e.jpghttp://img.photobucket.com/albums/v440/leche1103/null_zps0ad3246b.jpghttp://img.photobucket.com/albums/v440/leche1103/null_zps811f6593.jpghttp://img.photobucket.com/albums/v440/leche1103/null_zps88f5e996.jpg

19cturbo
in that harness you removed, i reatained that factory relay, and the dash plug.... it kept my ignition switch and everything like factory.. i just tied that into the jz harness
jtmuncher
Are you talking about the relay next to the ecu? Right now all I want to do is get the motor in, run fuel and get it started. Got to figure out a cheap way to control fuel for initial startup. Maybe a safc? How did u guys run fuel anyway? I'm going to run an aeromotive 340l pump, and I also have an inline Bosch 044. Injectors are 750's. I'm sure 6an feed/return will support 5-600hp. Thanks
BOHO
I'm running bosch 044 pump. 6an feed and factory return. Safc2on 550's. I'm probably only around 420whp though. The factory map sensor is only good for 21psi and I'm staying below 18 just to be safe. I've seen people get around 500 with nothing but an safc but I'm going to wait until I get an AEM. And I'm making a color coded ecu diagram just to get you running.
jtmuncher
Thanks a lot man. I really appreciate all the help. I just ordered a gas tank from a guy in Houston and I had to order a complete ignition switch and lock/key set as well. The ignition switch was torn up pretty bad like someone tried starting the car with a freaking screwdriver. I got the car for a really cheap price but after replacing the tank, calipers, discs, all the suspension, brake lines, fender and 6-bolt rear it wont seem like a good deal. I may just use this shell as the catalyst to get the motor in and running until I can find another fiji quest. As for the fuel, Im getting rid of all the stock hard lines and will be running an line for feed/return. Thanks again.
19cturbo
yes that relay next to the ECU. there are 3 wires that run from that relay to the dash harness... those are your power wires from your switched source (ignition switch) and then it supplies power out to your 2jz ecu, injectors and other things like the idle air control valve.. its pretty simple to wire in...ill take some pics of what i done and post them up for you.. My fuel pump has power when the switch is on, because toyota uses a different kind of fuel relay from their ecu, it doesnt give a constant signal.. so i just wired mine to have power when the switch is on, but i wired it through a toggle switch, that way i can cut the fuel pump off if i needed to have the key on and the pump not running.. i would advise putting in a switch if your going to wire yours this way.. basically this is what you want to retain from the factory harness... dont cut the wires between the relay and B38 plug (the one that goes to your dash) http://i223.photobucket.com/albums/dd23/19cturbo/MPI%20project/IMG_20110214_204447.jpg here in post 3 i describe what the main relay power outs do.. and you really only need 2 power outs to run your engine.. for the ecu, for the injectors. and then the idle air control needs 12v http://www.starquestclub.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=113850
jtmuncher
Wow, thanks for taking the time to post that info and pics. I was so excited I came home after working a 14 hr day, bypassed the wife and kids and went straight into the garage and started separating the plug and relay from the harness. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v440/leche1103/null_zps8662ca04.jpg
19cturbo
yep, thats it! now what you have is when you plug that dash plug back in, your relay will function just like it did from the factory.. youll just have to get your pinouts and wire power to what needs power.. jtmuncher
Didn't get anything done today. Just too tired... did get some goodies in tho. This leads to another question. With the engine and trans out of the car is it possible to install the flywheel and clutch assy on the engine first than slide the trans in or does the clutch assy still need to be on the input shaft first? Thanks http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v440/leche1103/null_zps136d7556.jpg
19cturbo
if you have an alignment tool you should be able to install it seperate.. i did mine the first time.. i plan on doing it again this time.. the issue is the alignment tool didint fit into the center of the pilot bearing, so i just ground it down until it did.. jtmuncher
Just realized I don't have the clutch release bearing hub assy. Where can I find this quick?
jtmuncher
Ordered the hub assy last night from driftmotion. I also had to remove a broken bolt from the bearing retainer and I need an input shaft and bearing seal. I guess I did a poor job of inspecting the trans when it came in. 19cturbo
did you order a complete hub with the snap rings and all? i hope you did..you will need them! i couldnt think for the life of me where to find one last night, i was actually coming here to tell you to go to drift motion and order one! Unfortunately I also need this oring...Toyota dealer couldn't find it...I would prefer to replace it. It fits in the groove just in front of the bearings in this pic. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v440/leche1103/null_zps9191749a.jpg
