Not dangerously, no. The mass airflow meters entire purpose is to tell how much air goes in, and then the ecu calculates how much fuel should be injected to match the air mass, creating the desired ratio. When you open the intake up and allow more air in the sensor accounts for this. Similar to turning up the boost, or running a larger exhaust system. It knows that more air is entering the engine.

 

Where you will run into trouble is when you take in a largely different amount of air than you did before at the same rpm, Either from increased airflow or by changing the location of turbo spool or powerband (moving it higher or lower in the rpm range) by way of a cam or larger, later spooling turbo as the factory tuning may not be as spot on since the vehicle was never intended to be running at that particular airflow/rpm. Also when you begin to run out of available injector flow you will run lean.

This is the first step in screwing up the MAF signal. The stock intake already is a cold air intake. The air enters below the bumper, comes around the right side through a slot and is in a large cavity behind the right fender and no water is ever there and no hot engine bay air is ever there. You're poking the MAF into a filter with its inlet a half inch from the end of the filter where its solid and the surface area is about 50% reduced, that's an improvement? You are installing a HOT air intake.

You see that tiny opening in the compressor housing? What good would it do to make the tube larger for a couple inches then have it bend and poke it into that hole? Its been done 1000 times and you'll think it makes a difference but it won't. It seems to make a difference cause you get to hear the compressor wheel back through that pipe easier when that can is gone. That air can is huge. That little stock turbo running out of air isn't the problem.
