headed to the body shop

just talked to my buddy

depending ono the shape of the body it would be 6k to 10k

sounds high but for the quality of work its a good price

he uses only the best material

if interested ill get you his number

There are several top notch painters in my area at that price point. Was hoping to find something at 5k, or less. My body is in great shape and free of rust/damage , needing only to be completely sanded and door dings smoothed over. But your buddy's work does look worth the price of admission.

Like Randy said you get what you pay for

I have know this guy for about 15 years

he uses the best of all materials and always goes the extra step to make sure the job is perfect

i have seen his repaint a whole panel cause he got a little run on the pinch weld where no one would have ever seen it but he knew it was there and could not sleep that night so he got up and went back to the shop and repainted it

$5k or less shouldn't be an issue. For $5k I could do show quality. Most of the full body spruce ups and repaints I have done have been under $2500, and some of those required rust repair before paint. I have a lower labor rate than the average body shop and use quality urethane paints that are basically copy cats of the high end stuff like PPG, DuPont, etc...$500 for urethane base and clear in any OEM color back to 1909 is a lot more affordable than the $2000+ that might be spent on materials alone when using the name brand stuff. Of course, there's also places you can find the stuff for $250 or even less, but the quality of that stuff is poor

I can't help you with your project because you don't live close (although I have had cars sent from other states because my prices and transport were still cheaper than local places), and I'm starting to get out of customer based paint and body, but there's guys like me with skills like mine in cities everywhere who will work for way less than a standard body shop. Pair that with getting quality materials for a relatively inexpensive price, and anyone here should be able to find someone local who's both talented, and hungry enough to get you what you want for well within your budget. Check your local Craigslist... that's where I started advertising for local work. Just make sure to find someone who can show you more than one example of their work in person, and who may also be able to give references to previous customers you can contact. If they can't show you any work and won't give references, then find someone else.

All that being said tho... Some people want the security of having their car done by a well known, insured and bonded shop, and there's nothing wrong with that. Rob's car looks killer and his guy obviously is top notch, but there's a lot of top notch guys who work under the table and can get you great quality for a better price than the body shops with huge overhead costs.

I agree with your statements. There used to be a couple of painters here who did beautiful work for @ $2500.00. One moved away, and the other went to work for a local dealership, to get insurance for his new wife and child. So my source of painters dried up.
