TrustConquest
So all of our ESI-R/TSi's are in their 20's, and most likely not running anywhere near the 176-188 HP it rolled out of the factory with. What are ways, if any, to restore lost horsepower to our cars without doing the obvious & expensive engine rebuild?
Frenchi934
considering the lost hp is due to worn engine parts... restoring it would require things like new rings, new timing components, and new lifters... leaking injectors, bad injector clips, leaking pipes/hoses also contribute. Changing out your O2 sensor wouldn't hurt either. Drivetrain parts such as wheel bearings and axle shafts will help to eat away your power before it makes it to the ground, rebuilding and replacing those will help with WHP. or you could just crank the boost and pray your worn engine will hold up to it. TrustConquest
or you could just crank the boost and pray your worn engine will hold up to it. That would be potential power not necessarily "lost" power. But thanks for the other info!
Skullzaflare
do a full restoration, including but not limited to rebuilding the entire drivetrain/rebuilding brake system to ensure they do not drag/rebuild engine to get numbers back/rebuild fuel system to clean every thing out/rewire the car for old worn out wires there is no magical $10 fix to get horsepower back, there are the gemics that clean the engine a little but show barely any results, aka seafoam, engine restore 4/6/8, amongst others
strang3majik
While a valid topic...not many engines out there are on their original wearables...lol
lionbull
VALVE SPRINGS. Rookies.
Starfighterpilot
New timing & oil pump chains, rebuild the distributor, and as lionbull said above, new valve springs at a minimum. If you still have the balance shafts in the engine get rid of 'em with a BSE which you can buy from Randy (DAD). But the above won't overcome low cylinder compression pressures or worn out engine bearings. See this for more drive train stuff to do. http://www.starquestclub.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=66449 For What It's Worth. ken
