Recommended Posts

some progress last couple weeks---got all my parts painted except for my engine crossmember(ran out of candy red  )the stuff that looks like bare metal is actually por15 metal mask---it looks just like bare metal but has the durability and rust preventive qualities as regular por15---awesome stuff---

Is that rattle can paint or is that paint done with a spray gun that paint looks really good?

Spray gun :D ---I honestly had a few different red candy colors around the house from old projects and mixed and matched a few different combos of the reds and came up with what u see on my engine and suspension----but now i have to buy another quart of silver base witch is no big deal but I have to buy 3 different qts of red candy and I will only use about 6 oz. of each to finish :(----With the extra paint I may paint my wheels as the clearcoat is starting to peel in a few spots ;)

thx

What type of spray gun do you use for primer and painting also compressor type looking to purchase as well for the home garage? I just realized you painted the tokico shocks. looking good how long will you say that paint is gonna last on those pieces on the suspension looks like might be a lot of repainting?

I use an old devilbis GFG for primer----I have been useing some new guns on the basecoat and clearcoat--Iwata Supernova--These guns laydown paint flat, wide spray pattern and the basecoat gun atomizes the fine metallics like no other gun I have ever used---perfect for the candies Im putting on my parts---I got an old ingersol rand compressor that I bought for home use from Costco like 20yrs ago and its still kickin'--3.3hp--30gl tank----Honestly the compressor probably wont last my build---running cutoff wheels and such are keeping the thing running constantly and given its age its on its way out IMO.As far as durability its the same paint/clearcoat(urethane) as whats on the body of all newer cars---If it was a daily driver it would be hard to keep mint but I only average about 1500miles per year and dont even drive in the rain so it should last--- :D

need an apprentice looking good nice work? LOL

I will teach anybody anything I know if they want(and have the time) but the problem is most people want to be an expert right away and get discouraged when that does not happen---I have put on several paint clinics over the years and learned that the best person to teach about paint is the guy who has very litte experience or never done it before---IF u lived closer I would say stop by---
