81zfan
I am in the process of installing a Walbro, but I am trying to figure out which wire is the hot and which is the ground wire? I am guessing the blk/ylw is the power, but my tester is broken. Any ideas please
81zfan
So I've searched the forum for a couple of hours and still nothing. Is there not a write up on here about how to install the walbro?
StarquestRescue
Page 41, the black yellow is the hot, black is the ground. If there is a little resistor box still there eliminate that. There are various ways to do the hose.http://www.starquestgarage.com/manuals/service/conquest/1988/88_conquest_service_manual_-_group_14_-_fuel_system.pdf
81zfan
The box is still in there. It's all original, even original pump. Thanks for this link Starquest, will you leave the box off ?
81zfan
I don't want to sound like a complete idiot, but I dont know what you mean by "there is various ways to do the hose"
StarquestRescue
If you have a 5/16 nipple on the output side of the pump. Get some 5/16 fuel injection hose and double clamp it. At the other end cut the crimp collor of the old hose to expose the nipple inside and double clamp it. If you slide the nut back on the metal line, 5/16 hose can be worked over the flare as well.http://www.starquestclub.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=125941&st=0&p=1227025&&do=findComment&comment=1227025 You can get install parts from these guys if needed.http://www.autoperformanceengineering.com/html/ext_pump.html
prototype78
Also if u want..get this filter ( http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B000CAZ5N0/ref=redir_mdp_mobile/188-6851944-0002469 ) and place it before the fuel pump...also replace the in-tank filter
81zfan
Ok gotcha. I have all the filters and stuff already. I was mainly concerned with that little box that was attached to the stock pump.
Indiana
Well why in the world would you want a resistor in the power feed to your fuel pump?
81zfan
Indiana, I didn't even know what the box was. I tried searching about this, but never found anything. It's installed and running now...that's all that matters right
Indiana
No, your question wasn't answered. Google, fuel pump resistor purpose and you'll find out what others don't know or care about. When you hear, "my car runs rich at idle" maybe you'll have a possible answer for them. Caliber308
I am in the process of installing a Walbro, but I am trying to figure out which wire is the hot and which is the ground wire? I am guessing the blk/ylw is the power, but my tester is broken. Any ideas please When you start to modify these cars. It is best to have access to the FSM. Hell, even if you don't want to modify these cars, The Factory Service Manual is a must have. So.......If you own one of these cars and plan on doing the work or modifications on them yourself, either buy the printed version for your year Starquest or download the FSM here: http://www.starquestgarage.com I could open up my FSM and and tell you which wire is 12 volt positive, But if I did that.....You would have not learned anything Bill Edited January 2, 2012 by Caliber308
Indiana
There's all sorts of electrical loads on your alternator you hear about that all the time and you want some things to be as consistent as possible and the voltage delivered to your fuel pump is one of them. 81zfan
I looked through the manual and honestly couldn't figure out what was what on it. I even searched for the resistor on here, and looked to see if there was anything in the FAQ's and couldn't find anything. I'm more than thankful for the input from individuals who have had these cars for years and knows every part of them
