Back from the dead, need help...

Ok hi guys. So I bought an 88 Starion. Supposedly was running perfect when parked....10 years ago. Sat in a garage for 5 years, then in a driveway under a tree for 5 years. So I got it to my house via wrecker. It appeared to be in pretty good shape both inside and out, but it is a completely new experience to me. I have never had a forced induction car. I have built a low 10 sec. LT1 Camaro, and a 11 sec. fox body Mustang, and about 20 other cars and trucks. Anywho, I go it to the house and cleaned it up inside and out, and apparently the tree sap and other s*** from the tree put a nice protective coat on the car because the clear coat isn't even peeling. I think with a wax it will shine up. The inside looks to be in pretty good shape except it has leather seats in the front that are marroon, possibly from a Conquest? I am not sure. But I have alot of questions. When I first got it the fuel pump wouldn't kick on. So I dropped the tank, cleaned it all out replaced the fuel pump, the strainer, and installed another inline filter right under the inspection plate. I changed the spark plugs, and ordered the wires, cap, and rotor and will install them this weekend. But I need some help. Well basically just a point in the right direction. The search function on this forum lacks alot to be desired LOL, and I am having trouble finding what I need. The car idles, and will rev up kinda, but only if you feather the throttle. If you floor it, it bogs, and will die unless you let off the accelerator. All of the gauges appear to work inside, even has the factory radio installed. The only thing not stock on the car is the alarm. Not keyless entry though. So if someone could shoot me in the direction to where to start with the fuel? problem that would be awesome. I have some other questions though and don't know what to search to find them.

The little switch to the bottom left of the column, say like INT ANT WIPE or something. What does that thing do? And do you pull it or push it or turn? LOL.

The levers that release the seat belts. How do they work?

Why are there wires running to the rear hatch struts?

I read something about ignitor things, where is this contraption.

Umm, I think that is all for now LOL. Here are a few pics, because I know everyone likes pics.

Sounds like your secondary injector isn't firing. Pull the clip off of it and see if anything changes. If so, change the clips. They're known for going bad.

By unplugging the secondary injector what will that do? Just not make a difference if its not firing? Also which injector is primary and which is secondary? Thanks

The injection on the 87-89's runs entirely on the primary until you step into the throttle, then the secondary kicks in. Sometimes the injector dies, but more commonly the clips lose thier contact. The black injector towards the fender is the primary, the green towards the motor is the secondary.

Bit of good reading here...

Like vbrad said it is probably the secondary injector. Clean the contact poings on it and replace the clip.

The little switch to the bottom left of the column, say like INT ANT WIPE or something. What does that thing do? And do you pull it or push it or turn?

When you turn the intermittent wipers on, they are speed controlled. You go faster they speed up. Pushing that button in will disable the speed control part of the int. wipers.

The levers that release the seat belts. How do they work?

It you get in a wreck and the seatbelts lock, the levers will release the belt. Hatch must be closed for them to work.

Why are there wires running to the rear hatch struts?

The wires are for the 3rd brake light, rear defogger, and rear wiper.

I read something about ignitor things, where is this contraption.

It is the box mounted on the fenderwell next to the coil.

are you sure the alarm isn't factory? These cars have them stock.

The key fob says prestige. The guy I bought it from said it was installed in the early 90s. Id soon rip it out but I am sure its attached to every wire in the car lol. As for injectors I will check them out this weekend.

Thanks for the replies on my other questions.

Make sure there is NO vacuum leaks. the boot from the filter can to the turbo likes to crack, and the vacuum lines dry rot, crack and slip after 20+ years. This will cause the bogging alot of times.

and the fuel pump doesn't run unless the motor is spinning.

go here and read up on some of the basics: http://www.starquestclub.com/forum/index.php?showforum=27

and here are alot of good walkthroughs: http://starquest.i-x.net/viewforum.php?f=12&sid=4ffbdbc4cd1ce0510adb3beb0b767d76

I am going to change alot of the vaccum lines this weekend. Read somewhere it has like 45 feet of them. Lol. And I read all about the pump and checked fuseable links and then even tried the jumper port under the hood but the pump just clicked so I replaced it. Starts now. Have a horrible clanking exhaust under the car too.
