Tipsysmile
Well Turbo stopped boosting again today, and luckily my rebuild kit came in. So I figure what the heck, ill just yank the turbo off, rebuild it, and have it running for work in the morning.. HA.. 2 hours later I have this:http://img189.imageshack.us/img189/400/s5030338.th.jpghttp://img16.imageshack.us/img16/6564/s5030343.th.jpg and This:http://img339.imageshack.us/img339/6324/s5030342w.th.jpg So I get both halfs apart, and heres where im at:http://img130.imageshack.us/img130/8889/s5030345.th.jpg So im pretty noobish when it comes to turbos, are the fins supposed to be white like that? Anyways, now I cant get the damn big C ring off. I got some C ring pliers but its just bending the tips. (Cheap ones.) Is there some kinda trick to this damn thing?.. 1 more question. Motor mount:http://img693.imageshack.us/img693/2396/s5030344.th.jpg Is that mount shot? Thanks Edited June 26, 2010 by JAinsworth Skirting the language filter in the title, next time will be a suspension
D_Venable
I've used needle nose pliers with success in getting that large c-clip off, it's a pain in the rear, but it's not impossible. it is the hardest part of rebuilding a turbo in my opinion
michael knight
Usually that type of dicoloration is associated with running lean.
themitsubishifreak
SPRAY LOTSA WD40 TYPE SPRAY ON IT!!! then you can tap the c ring with a hammer and punch to loosten it from being stuck and rusted. the needle nose pliers work great if they will fit in the holes.once you get one side of the clip away from the side stick a flat edge screwdriver between the clip and side of the turbo and slowly pry the clip out as you work your way along with two screwdrivers. it helps to have two people one to use the pliers and one to use the flat blade screwdrivers to pry the clip out.good luck the first few suck. Indiana
Go to Sears, they have one pair of snap ring pliers that will go large enough to get the snap ring off but removing it is the easy part, getting it back on is much harder and you sure the heck won't do it with screwdrivers. Here's some pictures of how the cartridge is assembled and some parts that are dirty and what to expect and what to make sure you don't skip in cleaning or assemble in the wrong order. http://www.b2600turbo.com/truck_20g.htm A wire brush wheel on a bench grinder is very helpful, so is something to scrape the groove in the back of the cartridge just next to where the real oil seal seats. Tipsysmile
Mission acomplished!! Finally at 2:00 am.. Used a pair of needle nose, and bent the tips in a bit for better bite. Work beautifully. Its amazing how much a rebuild changed my car. Hitting 14psi according to the stock gauge. Before was barely 11. also I forgot to plug the O2 sensor in when i fired the car up, and noticed it idled better, than when it is plugged in. Would that mean the sensor is bad? And sorry JAinsworth, I didnt even think about the swear filter when i posted that, was kinda ticked off..
cyberquest
if your hitting 14 on the stock gauge its no wonder its showing lean and blowing thru turbos. put a real psi gauge on it and i bet your gonna say "oh crap" i am running 20psi on a VDO gauge and it doesnt get to 14 on my stock gauge. that stock gauge isnt even a LITTLE accurate. please please stop using it to gauge how much boost your pushing. you could be spooling that thing to 30psi which will make it NO LAST at all. Indiana
and that turbine wheel is white because you are running very lean
Tipsysmile
Yes, Yes I know about the stock gauge, I was just using it as an example. I dont rely on any of the gauges, as only the Temp, Tach, and speedo work.. Already have a Oil pressure gauge installed, just havent got around to installing a vac gauge. Where would I start looking with the lean issue? MAS? O2?
Shelby
start by geting a real boost pressure gauge ,,and an air fuel meter ,, then check for failure codes at the ecu,, this is serious you sound like your way over boosting
