D_Venable
88 Yamaha XT 350 Dual Sport, got my permit last week, and I'm in the middle of a safety riding course (I go do the driving portion tomorrow morning, and Sunday morning http://www.26liter.us/gallery/albums/userpics/10030/P6040480.jpghttp://www.26liter.us/gallery/albums/userpics/10030/P6040481.jpg for being a dual sport, it has a relatively low seat height, as sitting on it, I can touch with both feet (I'm only 5'6") It was relatively cheap, and grown up with a dirtbike, I feel relatively comfortable on it. Although I stalled it 4 times on the way home, The PO has the clutch adjusted for nearly instant full grab, so it either bogged bad, stalled, or I got it wrong, and lifted the front end, SO that's the first thing I'm gonna need to adjust, rear brake has no feel to it, and the horn doesn't work. Runs great, kick starts quick and easy. and is plenty fast enough for a first road bike for me. I LOVE IT! Derek

D_Venable
The dual sports came with a relatively low seat height (33") and once up and on the bike, it sags a bit, but not much. I'm betting the off-road only ones had a better suspension to start, and was setup for more ground clearance, thus the higher seat height.
dmyers151
Yeah, the off-road only bikes are much taller and stiffer. If the dual-sport versions were that tall they would be very top heavy and pretty scary at speed.
bmx152
mine seems fine at top speeds ive never had a problem
Maxzillian
I know one of these days I intend to install the XR650L suspension on my XL600R. It should give the bike another 2-3 inches of suspension travel. Seeing as how I'm 6'5", the height of the bike is a problem... it's too short! D_Venable
I finished up the basic rider course today, and passed rather easily (actually had no points deducted on the final ride test WOOT!) So tomorrow morning a trip to the DMV around the corner with the title for the bike, and my stamped permit papers for my motorcycle endorsement. Also went and filled the bike up today... $6.10 for 89octane The clutch level slop is the pivot point being oblonged, so I'm gonna get a new bolt (threads seem striped, and enlarge the hole and run a bushing, quick easy fix for the time being. clutch feels better now that I've got some practice on the ones at the course, and the rear brake just needs adjusting, it works, but it takes a lot of travel to engage it. starting to feel a bit more comfortable on it now as well. weather permitting (which is looking to be nice out) I'm riding to work in the morning after I take care of the title and my endorsement. So exciting Derek
