I have a 88 quest i bought that had a sunroof that was not working.  The motor would click.  I found the the problem but I do not know how to locate a gear for it.  I have no idea who made the sunroof or even where to find out.  The gear is stripped that drives the cables.  I see from looking around its called the sunroof drive gear.  I took a couple pictures of it.  The cables run below the larger of the 2 gears in the housing.  The gear shown seperately is the larger of the 2 gears in the housing turned upside down.

These cars with electric sunroofs are something of a rare breed , only something like 9 of them anyhoo the number is very, very low , best bet is to find the sunroof manufacturer and hit them up for spare parts :)

really neat.  I really couldnt tell you if it were factory thought, but the sunroof has matching red covering trim that matches the interior

On here http://www.sunroofdo...litespoiler.htm

They say if the gears or track are damaged the whole sunroof must be replaced and they have a link to click on for suggested replacement units.

Is it possible to put a nylon or copper flat washer under the gear before you reinstall it, acting like a shim/spacer, to raise it up a bit to where the gear isn't so worn?

I've purchased stuff from sunroof doctor myself in the past.  Pretty awesome website actually at helping you figure out what you have when you have no clue.  Anyway, did you try calling them and explaining the situation.  I've always found them to be helpful.  They might just have a farmont 1000 laying around that they'd be willing to sell a gear from.  Never hurts to call and ask.  GL.

And for the record ... I hate sunroofs for reasons like this.
1988 Starion ESi-R ... crushed by a tree 10/31/11 - back from the dead 8/2016
1988 Conquest TSi ... current driver - sold to Bigjoe 6/2016
1987 Conquest Flatty ... F/S thread - sold 8/2014
1987 Conquest TSi ... parts car - sold to Coldscrip 12/2011
1999 Eclipse 4G63 ... heavily modified.
