ok guys my car wont start for some reason.

ok so one day as i was drivng down the road all of a sudden the car just shut off. So i lift the hood and i first throught either my MSD or my Knock box. So i get it home check both and no problems with either. So then i think maybe something went wrong with my MegaSquirt ECU but no. I sent it back to couth to check it over and no problem. So then i checked over everything in the distributor and it checked out fine, So then i went to start it a day later to try and see what the problem was and the battery seemed dead so i put my charger on and it fired right up. SO then i was like hmmm so i took it off and it stayed running. Then i shut it off and tried to start it again without the charger and i wouldnt start then i put the charger right back on and it fired up. So i checked the battery its good and made a new heavy dutty ground strap. Nothing still wont start. Then i checked fuel and spark, which the car has both. Then i tried a friends knock box and it didnt make a difference. So now im stuck here with a great running car that wont start.

SIMPLY..

As soon as i put a 40amp charger on it the car will start and run fine. then i turn off the charger after 10 seconds and it continues to run just fine. then when the car is warmed up it will start and run every time.

Thanks guys for the help in advance.

From what you are saying, your battery is bad or its not charging and its hits the voltage threshold that MS just shuts down. That's in your software that it will shut down when voltage gets so low. You added anything new lately that might be drawing more amps than before? Loose alternator belt?

The only thing I added to my car was a quick release steering wheel lol.

I haven't checked the belt but I can tell you the alternator is the original and I'm sure its seen better days. I was gonna order a AC Delco one from rock auto do you think that's a good choice.

I used a dbom (digital volt ohms meter) and I tried a known good battery with no difference.

Did you load test that battery, or did you just check the surface charge? Just because you have a good surface charge on the battery, doesn't mean it will provide enough current to start your car. Get the battery properly tested!
