mikec
StarQuest cruise control units are totally self-contained little beasties. And they don't affect anything else either. You can safely remove:* cruise computer under trunk floor* cruise actuator & throttle cable. Tip: at the actuator you'll see a black plastic "fairing" where the cable attaches... separate the 2 pieces of this fairing and you'll see a very simple attachment for the cable... makes it much easier to pull the cable through the dash to the interior of the car where you can unplug it from the top of the throttle pedal. Plug the vac line of course... or follow it to the source and remove it completely.* By the wiper motor you'll see a relay and a small pressure sensor with a itty-bitty air filter element... those are part of the cruise circuit and can be removed. Follow the vac hoses again...* At the front of the car, near a headlight, you'll see the vacuum pump motor. This makes vacuum during on-boost conditions for the cruise. It can be removed too; it won't screw up your dash vents. You'll find the same vac hose goes to this beastie; that whole run of vac hose can be removed. Just cap the end of the "T" where it taps into the hoses by the wiper motor; otherwise your dash vents will quit responding. The a/c is also pretty basic and can be removed. Compressor, front condensor (radiator), and the engine-bay piping are easily removed. Under the dash you could remove the big evaporator box but then you'd have to rig up a hose to connect the fan motor to the heater box. Getting that evap assembly out is a fair bit of work... mike c. quest925
Thanks Mike. For me, the detail you described makes all the diff. I really appreciate it! So long CC.... Brett

You can pull the evap core out of the box under the dash, and just put the box back in empty. Then you lose a little more weght (not much), and the air flow has less restriction. Or, pull the evap core out, remove the restrictor line, add a 90 degree heater hose to stick out the firewall, and put it back on. Route the heater hoses to it. Makes for a killer heater system in the StarQuest. Much more heat, more efficient, and very reliable as the evap core will hold 100+PSI. It will never leak.
