will a double din receiver fit in place of our factory openings ??

I have yhe original air dam for my 88 starion, however it is in three pieces. Previous owner held it together with red duct tape (no it doesn't fix everything). I hear the aftermarket ones are difficult to fit so I was thinking of filling in the breaks with poly resin on the backside of the dam. Does anyone think it would be better to use fiberglass with the resin or will the resin suffice. Also would it be more trouble to go the route mentioned or get the aftermarket air dam? :?
