Anyone ever use em?

I had a set of door locks, with the actuators, sent over to fit to my european flatty 86 that never had central locking. It looks like the way the linkages hook up, the key barrel no longer directly actuates the lock mechanism, but instead has a reed switch attached to it, that signals the central locking system to unlock the doors with the solenoids. Does this sound correct? When you unlock the door on a later model car, does it feel like your directly actuating the lock mechanism, or do you he
