  2. I was trying to find a local shop to lighten my 89 flywheel but no one can/wants to. I did find one shop that said they would look at my already lightened 87 and see if they can redrill it to accept the 240mm clutch. I just have a few questions before I take it in. 1. Should I have them drill the hole for the crank dowel? My crank doesn't currently have it (donor engine im building is out of an 87) but i figured i might as well put it in while im getting it drilled. 2. What size should they drill for the PP dowel pins? I know the pins should go in when the flywheel is hot so that it contracts when its cool and holds the pins in. Im afraid they might drill them to fit the pins as is and they will fall out after I install it. Appreciate the help.

  10. What year was the car? Might be interested in a few pieces.
  11. My car seems to always have the heater on, no matter what i set the controls to. The car had no AC (compressor and lines missing) when I bought it, but the previous owner gave me the parts to install if i wish (which I still havent). Since I bought the car in the winter it wasnt a big deal. now that its summer it seems that I cant shut the heater off no matter what I do w/ the ac controls. I can always feel hot air blowing from the vents and under the dash. I've noticed it blows more when on the freeway and not so much when at stoplights. I thought it might be the engine but I never see the temp gauge go above halfway so I assumed the engine temp was fine. I thought maybe something might be stuck in the heating/ac system. Any thoughts? Im still thinking of putting the AC back in but since I live in west TX and it's summer 10 months out of the year I was thinking of ripping the heating system out since I would rarely use it anyways. Is that possible?
  12. Theres a local guy here doing a 4g63 swap at a shop a friend of mine owns. While talking to my friend he asked if i wanted the chance to buy the old set up. Mainly I wanted to turbo set up and a spare engine, but he said the original owner said it also had an upgraded clutch and flywheel. he couldnt say for sure what brand or anything but he vouched for the guy and i trust him so i said ok i'll take the tranny too. im pulling it apart today and i cant really figure out if it is actually an HP clutch or not. I've never messed w/ Starquest clutches so im not really sure what it should look like, but looking up online it looks like an oe replacement to me. im wondering if anyone on here can confirm? http://www.starquestclub.com/forum/uploads/gallery/album_1090/gallery_7736_1090_50127.jpg http://www.starquestclub.com/forum/uploads/gallery/album_1090/gallery_7736_1090_119727.jpg pressure plate http://www.starquestclub.com/forum/uploads/gallery/album_1090/gallery_7736_1090_50170.jpg Also, neither of us were able to place what kind of manifold this thing is using. Looks pretty good though, braced on both sides and bolted up to a Garrett t3/t4 50 trim. Anyone seen these before? http://www.starquestclub.com/forum/uploads/gallery/album_1090/gallery_7736_1090_112148.jpg http://www.starquestclub.com/forum/uploads/gallery/album_1090/gallery_7736_1090_117527.jpg
  13. ARP head studs, or at the least new stock bolts. Its not a matter of how many miles are on them, once you torque them down once they can't be reused.
  14. Well really I was looking to build the head outside the car and do a swap when its done to minimize down time. The car is my daily at the moment but during the summer I'll have my bike so I can garage it for a week or so, but didnt want the car to be down too long while if surprises came up during the build.
  15. thanks for the info. i have a follow up question though. My goal is to push the car to around 300ish. I was looking at Dad's site and cant decide if I want the built Marnel head, or save a few bucks and build the M28 NJV head. Both would get the same internals (OS valves, HD springs, ect). What's the recommendation?
  16. Still going over the car trying to sort out what's been done by the previous owner and what needs to be done. PO told me he rebuilt the engine 7k ago and reused the stock head w/ a JVE kit. When I was going through the spare parts and paper work he gave me I found a paper from National Cylinder Head regarding "your new head". The only markings I can see on the head is M24 stamped on both sides. I've only found references on this board to M27 and M28 heads as well as Marnel. What kind of head am I looking at?
