  1. Not with the AEM ems , you need to set distributor position for optimum rotor phasing , then sync timing through AEM software.
  2. The AEM works better with the 24-1 trigger , starts quicker and that is the native trigger that the ecu was designed for. Also, this engine is not only using the distributor to trigger the ignition but is also using it to direct the spark via a distributor cap and rotor. The rotor phasing is mechanically set and cannot be adjusted through the ecu. In other words the rotor needs to be positioned so that the spark is happening somewhere in the mechanical range of the rotor tip relative to the lug in the distributor cap through the ignition timing range that is being used. AEM has an ignition sync value that is used match measured timing to indicated (through software) timing.
  3. That turbo comes in a variety of different exhaust configurations , it has a .63 A/R on the turbine housing, 3" V band for the down pipe , and a T3 flange.
  4. Nope , needs 12 volts , we learned the hard way, also, Mitsubishi wired ground to engine/chassis ground, not sensor ground for some reason. You could try sensor ground.

  6. 1 - If I remember correctly I set it like a starion distributor , set engine to tdc , line up notch on distributor housing with mark on distributor gear and install distributor. I think we had a spare distributor cap with a hole in it to check the rotor phasing with a timing light, then tweeked the offset in the calibration. Bottom line, if you install the housing like it would be stock, the rotor phasing should be ok, because that's were we put it at, and it seems to work fine. 2 - Wire colors, Red = switched 12 volts , just tie into ecu power relay . Black = engine ground . White is the cam sensor signal . Yellow is the crank angle signal.
  7. We think it is an old Top End Performance setup, the car it came off of had a TEC2 on it with the 60-2 trigger actually installed inside the stock distributor housing, pretty funky. The DCOE adapter plate to the cylinder head looks like a modified G52 part, there were some small modifications to it to make it work on the G54 head.

  9. I'm not sure what year the head is, but it has the mechanical rockers and shafts in it. I see your point, but keep in mind this is a work in progress, then engine has acceptable compression, and we thought it would be interesting to dyno it as we go, you know , for fun and as a learning experience. I work at the shop, so the dyno time is free, not everyone has that luxury, so I thought some people might be interested to see the data. All that aside, we wanted to make it to the Mesquite meet, last weekend.

I'm not sure what the break up was, it's intermittent, I did not try to run the car at 20+ psi after that run on the dyno, on the street, we ran over 20 psi several times on our way to Vegas and it misfired about half the time. Either way, the cylinder head is toast, so considering it may be a mechanical problem, we won't run the car hard until we get the new ported head and big cam in it.   11. Just finished up (sort of) and dyno'd my friend Marks car so he could make it to the Mesquite meet last weekend. Quick build list: Stock , very worn out cylinder head with a mushroomed #3 exhaust valve. Stock mechanical cam, also worn out. Custom individual throttle body intake , using TWM DCOE throttle bodies. SMB header. 40MM Turbosmart wastegate. Comp Turbo CT4-6265. AEM Series 2 6050 "Honda box" Mighty Max distributor with AEM 24-1 trigger disk . The comparison dyno graph 'small 16g vs big turbo at 10.5 psi wm' had the same setup except with a stock intercooler , stock exhaust manifold and a small 16g turbo. When I was dynoing the car Friday night, I mistakenly thought that the power similar at the lower boost levels, but looking at the dyno graphs again today, at 5200 rpm there is a gain of 30 hp with the Comp turbo at the same boost level.   12. Load cell dynos measure torque and calculate horse power. Inertia dynos like a Dynojet calculate horse power, and if they have a valid rpm measurement, then calculate torque. That's why you can get a horse power reading on a dynojet without any rpm reading based off wheel speed, but no torque reading.
  13. I don't have a detailed step by step and it was about 4 years ago when I did the one you see in the picture. I can tell you that we cut both of them (bodies) in the lathe , and put a register in one of them with a matching step in the other so that both were centered before welding. The hardest part was the shaft, we had to weld the CAS shaft to the distributor shaft, and honestly its not perfect , it spins ok, but you can feel a tight spot. If you could make a new shaft that would be better. That is why I think the Might Max or Galant distributor is a more practical idea. I will disassemble it and post some more detailed pictures if you want.

I posted this pictures on another thread , but thought this would be relevant, here are three options for you ; 1 - A hybridized Starion-DSM cam angle sensor , basically the bottom half of a G54 distributor with the DSM CAS fitted to it . 2 - Modified Might Max / 1990 and earlier Galant distributor . 3 - Modified 1991-1992 Galant-Expo distributor .
