  2. I had a slight set back my fuel pump crapped out should have it fixed this weekend. Then I plan on

putting her on the rack and fabbing up a mock sway bar out of copper tubing. I think there is room to run

it in front of the sump instead of under. Thanks again Robert for getting with Glen, sorry its turning out

    to be so difficult.

    James

  3. Yeah, I'm in the area... what's the name of the place??

    -Robert

I have only spoke to Glenn by phone for about 20 min thus far so you need to call him and setup a meet.

Or I can either way thanks a million for offering to do this. I'll PM you with contact Info

ps: I am sure he would make larger than stock bars for us aswell.

Thanks again for taking the time to help.

    Any problem Pm me.

    James

  4. Hey Guys and Gals,

I found a place in Portland, OR that will make us front sway bars for the 2jz swap.

Price will run between $200-250 with a 20% discount for 5 or more. Also thinking about getting

them made a little larger than stock. Anybody interested?? Any opinions on increasing size??

They say we could have a prototype as early as the end of July. Also anyone know a starquester in the

Portland area that could stop in and let them see what our cars front end setup looks like?

    Thanks for any input.

    James

  5. James,

Thanks... any chance the Quest shifter could have worked?

I don't have the input flange to match up to the transmission so I am going to have to have a custom drive shaft built.

Did you hook up the A/C?

I'd be interested in any part numbers you might have for radiator, intercooler and how you configured them.

Also, what did you do for motor mounts? Did you fab up from Mad Dax's drawings?

Quest shfiter works with rods also right where shifter comes through floor is also where the big rubber donut on driveshaft is so it causes a clearence issue.

Your auto toyo didnt come with the rubber donut and a small chunk of the orginal drive shaft? that sucks ,,,,

No a/c maybe one day but like serpent i ran wiring harness through firewall where a/c lines use to go.

Made my own mounts, used quest stock radiator, used universal FMIC intercooler I got on ebay, I'll take some pics so you can get an idea of where everything fits in engine bay this week and post or email them to you. My work at best is a hack job but its functional and safe.

    James

  6. James,

Did you use the toyota transmission? What did you do for a shifter?

I am in the early process of this same swap.

I used the Toyo transmission and a B&M Quick Silver Shifter. Once i get all the bugs worked out and everything cleaned up I will be putting a shift kit in the transmission. I havent had a chance to hook up the manual/auto shift circuit yet but i think it will work nicely. I used a lexus driveshaft I got from the junk man at work said they were part of some kind of recall so not sure what it came from but it had a built in slip joint. Had the drive shaft shop shorten and add the right end for the quest rearend and replace the other with the stub that came with the engine. Its probably the nicest looking part on the whole car and nobody will ever see it. I'll try to get a move on and get it cleaned up and take some pics for you. Let me know if you need help with any of it,

    James

    Thanks again Serpentkilla,

  8. When u get to the point of hooking up the ecu let me know and i can tell u exactly which wires u need

I would say yes u can use the factory guages, the speedo will work cuz the stock cable fits the supra tranny, the tach you might need a tach adapter to get that to work,

I found the perfect tach adaptor and its cheap I plan on using it with my swap. Still trying to sort out the speedo because my trans has electronic speed sensor and no cable hookup.

  10. Higher compression 2JZGE VVTI motors are, yes.

2JZGTE's are not interference motors with the stock compression ratio unless you use the JUN(10mm lift), GSC S1 or HKS 280 cams, but HKS 264's and 272's are good to go unless you deck the block and plane the head. Go with a higher compression ratio piston, and this changes though.

A kevlar belt and billet tensioner would be something to get if you built it into an interference motor.

Yep your right I miss read sorry,

It said 1jz's 1996 and newer vvt engines are interference due to a change in compression ratio 8.5:1 to 9.0

thanks for the additional info. Been reading up on these motors so much its all starting to blurr together.

    James

  11. What is the difference between the 1JZ and 2JZ?

Ok so heres the diff depending on year:

    1JZ 8.5-1 compression

    2jz 9.0-1 compression i think

    1jz map sensor

    some 2jz mass air flow

1jz non interference engine( timing belt breaks @7000 rpm's no damage)

2jz interfence engine ( timing belt breaks @ 7000 rpm's get out your check book and cry)

1jz Parallel twin turbos ( both turbos spool together)

2jz sequential turbos (frt turbo spools first then second turbo spools and first turbo stops done to cut down on turbo lag)

    1jz 280 hp

    2jz 320 hp

main difference is bore and stroke, blocks are the same and heads vary a little

and like post above u can put the better 1jz head on a 2jz block and make better power.

    and price 1jz auto 1000 - 1300 2jz auto 1800-2300

    1jz 5speed 1700-2000 and 2jz 5speed 2300-2800 2jz 6speed 5500-6500

there also seem to be more parts readily availible for the 1jz although many parts work on either

Well thats about all I know about them at this time. Both are very good engines with very strong internals which allow big hp with little to no bottom end changes.

Feel free to add to or change any info I have listed I am by no means an expert on these motors this is just what I have read online.

    Thanks,

    James

    PS Perez

Thanks for the quick response and pics they helped alot but you never answered the last question....

Hope mine goes as easy as yours...thx James

  12. Lmao, did u get the 1j or 2j? once u get your mounts made the rest is cake. Don't hesitate to call me. It's about time u get of your lazy arse and stop procrastanating lol

Ok so I went 1JZ for alot of personal reasons the main one being $$$. A few questions for our readers.

What are you using for cooling fans?

Did your front bumper fit back on after you crammed all that radiator and intercooler in there?

Do you have a pic with bumper back on yet?

Can you take a more detail pic of where you ran the harness and ecu location?

:eek1bluegreen: And last but not least can you fly down to North Carolina and do my swap for a case of beer? :eek1bluegreen:

*******This is the most important one of all so take your time before you answer.....

As always thanks for the help,

    James

  13. Just thought I'd post and say:

    THIS IS ALL YOUR FAULT!!!!!!!

My jz motor and trans will be here next week. Hope you were right when you said it wasnt that bad. I knew I should have never called you on the phone....:rofl3:

So make sure your ready for all the ???'s I am gonna have and keep your cell phone charged up.

Thanks for giving me the extra little push I needed to get started on this.

    Later ,

    James
