  1. Yes, I still have it! Message my inbox please! I don't like texting anyone without taking to them first.

The bottom end has been rebuilt with new rings and bearings and obviously new seals and gaskets. It also has a new XTD stage 3 racing clutch, water pump, Trilogy injectors, and almost new rear tires. Everything else has been checked, tested, cleaned, greased, etc. It's 99% done with only a few easy things needing to be completely finished. Physically the car looks great and the interior is phenomenal. I have some cheap racing seats in the car right now that I don't like but everything else is original. The exterior is pretty good as well with the exception of hail dents in the hood and roof, clear coat missing from two spots on the passenger side and various small scratches and what not. I believe with a little money, touch up paint and some paintless dent repair, it will be show quality. I love this car, it's a head turner and I rarely go out without someone stopping me to ask about it, look at it, etc. I does need some more things done that I have not gotten around to which I will list here but the car runs, idles and drive almost perfectly as is. What needs done to make this car perfect: -Water pump needs put on -Trilogy injectors need put on -Needs new radiator -clutch leaks fluid (probably didn't get tight enough) -CTS needs replaced I believe -lots of hail dents on hood and roof -wipers are slow?!?? (I've dealt with it, they do the job fine regardless) -front tires are good but a little dry -tail lights currently need finished (molding in round lights, just need sanded and painted now) -Motor mounts are original but seem to be holding up just fine -Rear rubber mounts I've been told are getting old -Exhaust needs welded (it's just clamped right now from where it was cut to remove the exhaust manifold) -and last! People have told me to put transmission fluid in the power steering pump, now it's hard to steer! Before when I was using actual power steering fluid it was fine. So it needs drained I believe and replaced with the right fluid. If you live close, you can drive this car home no problem, but if you live over an hour I would bring a radiator and then drive it home. I am asking $4000 for this car. I really want to keep it but it was part of the deal when we bought our house. I traded the tittle of the car to the owner of the house for $3000 towards the down payment. In 4 months I will have to either give him $3,000 cash or the car. I wont be able to come up with the money so I would rather sell the car than loose a grand on it. 3. I have this exact same problem! I'd love to know what works for you.
  4. I need money to get my car back on the road! I posted these before and promised them to a member but was unable to follow through with shipping so this time they are pick up only and I'm motivated to sell them. They are light gray center and darker gray/blue bolsters. The driver seat has light wear marks and a small rip in the cloth as seen in the photos. I am using the rails and seat belts for my new seats, so they won't be included. I also have the plastic covers for the sides as well as screws, bolts, etc (not sure if all there but if picked up we can probably find everything). They are in pretty good condition considering the age! I vacuumed the driver seat and took a bunch of pictures of it because 1, I didn't have much time and 2, the passenger seat is just like it but in better condition. $250 is what I need to get my crank shaft and pistons back, so that's what I'm asking for the seats. 27292 Lexington, NC.
  5. Check the fuesable links beside the battery. Mine used to do that all the time. Corrosion and filthy wires in general. I replaced all mine and cleaned the terminals.
  6. Anyone know where I can get one or if its called by a different name? You can see the part listed on this vacuum diagram.
  7. I'm going attempt to rebuild my engine! I've purchased a bsek, full gasket set, head bolts, water pump, fuel injectors, wires, plugs, coil, cap, rotor button, rod bearings, and all hoses and belts. Anything else I really need to get while I have the engine out and apart?
  8. When I put new oil in the car I used an additive that had a swirly sparkly look to it which resembled metal dust in the oil. I really think its a rod bearing after all my research. That was my original thought to begin with. What bothers me though is I've had lots of 80 model cars with much higher miles, in worse shape and have never had so much trouble out of a car. Even after all the work I've done to it trying to ensure this wouldn't happen. Now I may end of having to part out a good car because I'm not a good enough mechanic to get it fixed right. I'll jack it up and see what I can do myself, but this is all a bummer.
  9. My gauge is reading just under the middle line for the oil pressure when its idling but is fine otherwise. I read on this forum that its usually the gauge because I have no ticking and physically can see plenty of oil getting to the top of the engine. I also drained my oil and there's no metal shavings. The knock is only between 2k and 3k rpm or so and only if I I put moderate to heavy pressure on the throttle.
  10. No it doesn't. I took the valve cover off and checked everything for play and its all tight. Chain has some play on one side.
  11. Stock 88 Starion I've been working on, on and off. I've done all work needed to get the engine fresh like water pump, oil, tune up, belts, hoses and so on. I also check my oil and water constantly. I just ordered new injectors because my stock are no good. So today I drove the car because I put fuel injector cleaner in it. Drove it kind of hard and opened it up for the first time shifting at about 4-4.5k rpm for about a minute of so then noticed on the way home that I'm Now get a knock from the rear of the engine when at about 2-3k rpms. It goes away at idle and above low rpm. I am so stressed! My oil pressure is pretty good judging from the stock gauge but a little low at idle. Any thoughts on this would be great. I could cry
  12. UPDATED: I added a price and pictures! Front seats only! I am using the rails!
  13. Thanks everyone. I will take some pictures tomorrow and also come up with a price. I also don't know how to go about shipping them, if I should even ship them, or if I should just do pick up only. I know shipping would probably be pricy.
  14. I have replaced my seats and wanted to see if there is any interest in my old ones. They are light gray center and darker gray/blue bolsters. The driver seat has light wear marks and a small rip in the cloth as seen in the photos. I am using the rails and seat belts for my new seats, so they won't be included. I also have the plastic covers for the sides as well as screws, bolts, etc. They are in pretty good condition considering the age! I vacuumed the driver seat and took a bunch of pictures of it because 1, I didn't have much time and 2, the passenger seat is just like it but in better condition. Since I'm not really sure what these seats sell for I am asking $200 OBO. If that's too high or too low, just make me an offer! Also, I'd really like to do pick up only and I can meet as long as it's not over 1 hour from 27292 Lexington, NC.
  15. Thanks everyone for the replies. To answer some of the questions above: 1. Yes, it sat for 3 years. 2. There is no play when I wiggle the tires from side to side jacked up. 3. I have had time to check anything out back there. I'm waiting to get it up on my friends lift. It's much better today but it's also about 70 outside and it's been in the low 40's and 30's since I bought it so this is the first warm day I've driven it.
  16. This is a hard issue for me to describe on my 88 Starion ESI-R. When I take off with the wheel turned I can feel a jitter that seems to be coming from whichever wheel is on the outside of the turn. The perfect descriptive word isn't coming to me so to attempt to help you understand the issue I would compare it to something lightly compressing the brake pad down consecutively ever 1/4 second or faster. You can imagine the way that would feel through the steering wheel and floor boards as well as the faint sound it would make. I'm not saying I think it's the ABS on the rear even though that could be a possibility. I have not had a chance to diagnose the problem though I am going to try and let it rest at a stop for a few minutes without the brake pedal pressed, then taking off at an angle to see if it's possibly the rear brake pads releasing slowly due to old grease or some other cause. I thought I would ask the community in case it was an issue discovered and rectified in the past! 1988 Starion ESI-R completely stock with the acceptation of some maintenance related replaced parts.
  17. So, I'm Chris and I live in North Carolina. Between the age of 13 and 17 my grand mother had a mint 87 Conquest. When I turned 16 I begged her and begged her to sell it to me. She said it wasn't an appropriate first car and ended up selling it to someone else. Ever since then the Starquests have been one of my favorite cars and I have always wanted on of my own. I found my 1988 ESI-R on craigslist for $2,800, talked the owner down to $2,200 on account of the drive shaft, radiator, and tail lights being no count. I've had it for about a week now and have fixed just about everything except for the lights, left turn signal not blinking, slow wipers, and minor paint defects. So anyway, it's completely stock, has 140K miles, and looks/runs great after some minor repairs. I plan to keep it close to stock with the addition of some needed upgrades. I joined this community because to me, this isn't just another car. This is one of my dream cars I never thought I would find in good shape for a price I could afford. So here I am so I can get the right advice for the right people and hopefully make some friends too! Here is my 88 Starion. I'm planning on taking more pictures when it warms up and I get a little more work done to it. UPDATE! While I try to save money to buy new tail lights I had a little fun with my old, cracked, rusted, and beaten ones as well as did a carbon fiber wrap on my hood until I can afford paint-less dent repair. Here's what it's looking like now!

    Progression of my Starion

I'm not a master mechanic, nor am I great at body work but I really love this car and getting it where I want it is my new obsession. I plan on keeping it for a long time and working on it little by little along the way.
