  2. I'm not sure if that was an electrical or a mechanical change. Someone ought to pull their battery cable off on a earlier car and see if the door can be locked without holding the handle up. I'm guessing it can't, because I recall all sorts Toyotas and Nissans (Datsuns, back then) having to have the door handle held up to lock the door.

    It's a mechanical change. On my 88 with out the battery in you still have to hold the handle up.
