Well I found my knock. The tensioner for the balance shaft assembly was a thread away from falling out. Luckily the entire thing is getting removed. I went ahead and tore it down completely for new bearings, rings, gaskets, etc. The throttle body was dumping coolant into the runners as well. I did find out my entire exhaust system from the turbo elbow back is HKS. The "cat" has HKS stamped on it. Not sure if its gutted or not. Started disassembly on the engine in preparation of yanking out the engine to find my knock and i've found quite a few neat items on the car. Yes I met you guys many years ago and its what got me wanting a starion. I was there in a white supra and my buddy had a 1jz swap supra. I'll be there I hope its my goal since I live 10 minutes away lol.

Hello everyone my name is Nathan. I've been a lurker here for about a year and finally came across a Starion for myself. I've wanted one of these cars for about 5 years now but everytime the deals would fall through. Not this time though I now have an '87 Starion red with black leather. Engine has a knock according to the previous owner which it does but doesn't sound like a rod knock. I've been told these engines are unreliable but I've dealt with 7MGTE's so surely they can't be too bad Lol. Right now I'm going to tear out the engine and give it a fresh rebuild. According to the previous owner it already has a non jet valve head, 16g turbo, new valves, ported head, polished exhaust ports and a few other things. Car has coilovers on it too. I'm not sure what my end goal is yet other than drivable.
