  1. The motor i'm getting won't be able to do 500, so I'll keep it conservative. and see what I can get out of the TBI. Goal is 300-350 to the wheels. That would still make for a fun street car and on a budget.
  2. Coming soon to a engine bay near you. I'm buying a short block, going to swap my head over. I need to make a check list of everything so I don't forget. New injectors + oring new fuel filter new throttle body rebuild kit new coolant temp sensor short block headgasket kit using my old head and headstuds which don't have many miles on them. Replace brittle cracked,/broke tail vacuum lines Rebuild throttle body Remove egr crap (link on how to) Coolant and oil change. Scrub engine bay clean same clutch/flywheel order new flywheel bolts After it's running: (in no particular order) gm maf install hard pipes bigger turbo rotors/pads suspension paint job I have never pulled one of these before and never did a TBI car so I'm a little nervous. Don't want to pull it out and find out I can't figure out where a stupid vacuum line or bolt or plug goes so I want to make a check list and make sure i got it down right in my mind and on paper before I begin. Where are good places to lift the engine from? I don't remember seeing any lift points on the motor. Do you have to get under the car to remove anything? I've only pulled fwd/awd cars. When the motor is out should I do anything else in the bay? Anything with the power steering?
  3. MPI relay? When I bought my car the guy said the pump was bad, I put 12v to it and it started, replaced the mpi/fuel/computer relay. Whatever it's called. No problems starting it since.
  4. Oversized would be nice, but not sure how much of a gain it's really worth. Plus I'm doing it on a budget.
  5. Anyway to make that speedo cable longer? I was putting the cluster back in and it was a really tight fit. Sucked! If I decide to change the gauge for an autometer how can I make it work?
  6. I'm not going to pay $96 a rotor at autozone for front rotors. Where do you guys buy yours from?
  7. You don't have to have it welded all the way around, 3 or 4 beads will be enough. I had a guy do that to mine a few years ago (he owns an rx7 shop and claims to have run 60psi on a rx7 and never had an issue) and I didn't have one with my car. Or take the pipes to AMS and have them bead roll it, it's $5 each end. Or spend $5 and make your own bead roller. Like so http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/custom-fabrication/324132-homemade-intercooler-pipe-bead-tool.html
  8. Got a link on how to do this? The stock pump looks like a complain to come off. So i'm assuming the filter is attached to it as well. Who sells an IAC/ISC? I didn't see one online or at autozone. I will try that this week if I have time, but not going to worry about an OHM reading on the CTS since I ordered a new one. I'm going to rebuild the throttle body this week, hopefully Wednesday night if everything shows up, anything I need to know or look out for? What is the tps reading supposed to be at, because i'll probably take it off to clean the entire throttle body. Maybe. Anyone ever also port their throttle body?
  9. Yes I did. I used a wire brush and some contact cleaner. Yes I did. Spark plugs have maybe 10 miles on them now. Compression is 110,90,110,110
  10. Just ordered the following: The wrong coolant temp sensor the right coolant temp sensor new injectors with orings and bolts new fuel filter throttle body rebuild kit Next on the list is going to be a fuel pump with 6an line and rotors/pads. Then whatever else I need.
  11. Got it from a guy that had it on his dsm. I also need new rotors/pads all around, new fuel filter,
  12. Took the car home from my moms house today and I reseated the fuel injector clips which are new (because it did the same problem on the way to my parents house) The car idles good and ran pretty well for the first 3 miles. (I even found a broke vacuum line on the throttle body and fixed it and put a T fitting for the boost gauge) After say 3 miles (ish) it runs like complete crap. Stumbles, back fires, floor it and it does literally nothing. RPMs fall and it wants to stall when i floor it. Partial throttle it does nothing. I basically had to just let out the clutch and not give it any gas for a short while then I was able to give it a little gas and make it home. Injector clips are new. Cosmo intake with stock maf. That's basically it. I did notice a drop of fuel around the top seal of the injector closest to the driver side fender so I am going to order a new set of injectors, and throttle body rebuild kit. Hopefully that is easy. Also I ordered a new fuel filter. Any other thoughts/ideas or where to start? I would like to do a fuel pump (wally 190) but not sure what 6an fittings I would need.
  13. It really helps to get the car running right first In due time I will have one. No rush
  14. Great, thanks for the help guys. I had no idea it had different settings for the blow through vs blow by. I want it as close to the throttle body as possible and after the bov. I don't have a wideband either. Never got a manual with it either. I'll play around with it all next weekend if I have time.
  15. Got the bottom off and had to get the springs back on. Didn't know the bottom came apart, that fixed it. Just gotta get the headlights to go up/down now, but I think that is a fuse. Thanks If I get rid of this dash I would really like to just put toggle switches in but not sure about all the wiring for these damn switches that it has.
  16. Looks good. My neighbor is huge into road racing and I haven't heard one good thing about 888 tires. I can ask him again, he holds a few records so he knows his stuff.
  17. Did a search and couldn't find exactly what I was looking for. Anyone have the settings for a gm maf and where the purple and white wire go? When I go hard pipes I may throw this on. I picked it up today with a filter for a damn good price. Only issue was the top of the box was missing and he had a piece of plastic on it. So a saw and sander and drill press and I made a cover. Well I'll have to be honest, mine came out like crap so my dad made this one, and then got some new screws. http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f110/pportuese/01eaf7c5.jpg
  18. 4 fuel filters? wt..... Just the one in the bay is all I knew of.
  19. What's the trick to getting this thing to STAY In place and not keep coming loose?
  20. I also need a fuel filter and fuel pump. I may just get a new fuel filter for $10 on ebay. PM me
