  4. UCW458 do happen to know what that would cost?? and BC that sounds good ill keep you informed. thanks guys.
  5. Most definitely interested, they seem to be hard to find everywhere
  6. Would love to attend if I get the motor in my then into th 86 quest! now... whether or not i can sneak out of work, kind of debateable.. will try!
  7. So a little paranoid if i order new lock cylinders that other keys from another car will work in them?? Recently had my other rig stolen and the quest keys were in the glovebox (rookie error trust me i know).... wondering if maybe theres another manufacturer lock cylinder that would fit that would have a different key than the quest style?? Just pondering before i put my quest back on the road! thanks guys
  8. Hopefully i can get my 86 quest to that meet in May as well! Thanks to the above ^^^^. Im in snohomish, WA
  9. Now that ive met up with MotoCam360 for exhaust parts i hope to get more involved in the local starquesting, and get my 86 Tsi quest running and performing as it should be.. this is the fisrt car other than my jeep that ive put mechanical thought into. This has been an experience to learn more about the car world!! loving my quest for sure!
  10. So i couldn't find any post about this one.. Under heavy acceleration the exhaust backfires quite a bit and thats one thing... BUT. My dome light flickers everynow and then at the same time as the backfiring... ONLY UNDER ACCELERATION. Cleaned fusible links terminals and ordered new ones just to be safe, but is there anything else that comes to mind?? Thanks guys! 86 Quest TSi
  11. Correct grounds and power routed on you coil?? Also double check that plug wires are seated all the way. I just replaced a dead coil because i had no spark so theres a few things to think of. Hope it helps!
  12. Perfect thanks guys! Ive been tearing through all the terminals already hoping its gonna be the issue. As far as the coil issue though i'll look into that coil Caliber, as long as that one wont leave me on the side of the highway! Thanks! Cody
  13. Coil first.. When i first bought the car i did the standard tune up with new coil, plugs, etc using all the recommended parts from the newbie check. Since then i have replaced the coil 4 times... Just either died or overheated. Just replaced another one today.. Symptoms for needing one: Car died while driving and wouldn't start again, happened every time.. Am i just bad luck or is there something i'm missing... Next! My main fusible links connection from the battery terminal post is heating up under load and melting and getting hot, the usual suspect for electrical bug.. Did a ground go bad or is something causing this? Many thanks, Cody Oh PS its an 86 widebody quest
  14. Took it off and the numbers changed when i did it by hand, i must've done it wrong.
  15. tested my TPS reset skills again and found that no matter how much i move my TPS the voltage never changes? i would expect to see a least a little bit of change, is it supposed to be locked on at .48v and not have any movement? i know the book says that's perfect but i would've though i could at least get some differentiation..
  16. Ohhhhh dang good point. I havent thought of either of those yet definitely gonna take a look at both
  17. Alright well.... My freshly cleaned injectors are back and the car no longer runs rich! the smell is gone!! And is idling a little more smoothly. However... the hesitation still exists. i also had my fuel pressure checked, and my vac adv was also checked. So.. now im going to try a full tune up, cap rotor wires coil oil plugs and fuel filter. just to see if the problem still arises...
  18. yessir they have a nice ultrasonic
  19. Injectors are being cleaned tomorrow!! Excited to see if that get the job done! And a quick question, is the MSD Blaster 2 worth getting for a new coil or should i just stick with the OEM type? Getting the Blaster would also mean full tune up of course..
  20. Yeah im sending the injectors in still for cleaning, its a must do.
  21. Lucky me, the hesitation came back. So i must start eliminating suspects again.... is it possible that my knock sensor may just be shot? my car sat for 12 years before i bought it, so maybe due to possible conditions it sat in maybe its just dead? Correct me if im wrong but the knock sensor can have the same effects as a bad vac adv. Meaning that the timing is getting thrown off since its not reading the vibration of the engine correctly?
  22. I changed out the plugs and wires and it stopped hesitating, looked like two of the old plugs may have been fouling. Vac advance is fine i already checked that. And i just bought those NGK's because id have to special order them everywhere close to me and i didnt have a whole lot of time to sit around and wait, its my daily.
  23. Checked my vac. adv. and it checked out A-o.k. Also checked other vacuum lines for possible leaking, everything checked out. I just bought NGK BPR6ES and will be installing them later tonight. And im planning to have my injectors professionally cleaned within a week or so from a buddy of mine who can get it done for me.
