  1. You should stop and consider that. Not many sports cars in the 80's were built quite so well. I can tell you for a fact, after watching classmates wad up Camaros, Firebirds, and Mustangs, the American cars didn't seem to hold up in a crash quite as well. Once AGAIN, this car proves that it was ahead of it's time. Tim
  2. Rock Auto has a kit for about 65 bucks. Tim
  3. I can give it a shot....there used to be a member location map, but I am not sure if it survived the last software upgrade. Tim
  4. You can have a gold one, any time you want it. ANY of you can! Just bring your checkbook. Tim

  6. It's not raging hormones. I'm busting your balls for all the times you hit me up on Yahoo, and I went through the FSM's, and both times went for the Tylenol. Tim
  7. This is why I don't sell mine.....or really get too serious about it, anyway. Tim
  8. As a former Gulf resident.......I'm with him on this. Tim
  9. I have been thinking of buying one to test. My stocker is spun up a little, and puts out right at 82 amps.....so I would think it is technically possible to do. Tim
  10. Shelby, my bad. I actually even knew it, too. However, and this is a weak excuse, mind you.......it was Monday, and the way yesterday went, it wouldn't have shocked me to have woken up with my head sewn to the carpet. Forgive me for outright neglecting to wish you a happy birthday, and allow me to wish you a happy belated B Day! Tim
  11. Yes. The ECU is the same auto or manual car. Tim
  12. Dale, I feel your pain.....I drive a full size, Mafia staff car, and I typically just drive it around town. It gets 12 MPG! But get it on the highway, where it warms up, and I'm not romping it from lights, and it gets 25-27. I was just looking for something to whip around downtown in, and I cannot justify a 30K hybrid car for that. Coke and Maxzillian have seen how I live......really, we need to get back to tuk-tuks and whatnot for this just around town thing. Tim
  13. Things are starting to come into shape, I think, and soon, maybe in a month or so, I will begin hammering out the way the convos can co-join. What places, what times, etc.....at least for the west side heading eastbound and down. However, Cokedoctor has officially flaked on coming to my house first, so he will be spearheading something with Importwarrior (this is what I was told) to come down from upstate NY, so all you guys could probably get in on that action. I need to hear from the guys that intend on joining my convoy, which I can post a link to later, but the long and short of it is that it will run east out of Kansas, into southern MO, through KY and into TN, and across. Basically, what I would call "the southern route". Once I see where cars intend to meet up, I can start creating waypoints. Tim
  14. Engine load comes from the TPS and to some smaller extent, the MAS. Tim
  15. Grand Marquis was electronic in '94. They used the AOD only for the first of the '92 model run on the Panther chassis. '93 and '94 used the AOD-E, and '95 switched to the 4R70W. Tim
  16. Dude....I have taken my own valve body apart on my own Grand Marquis.....I know these cars. If it was a servo, it would not shift in at all, same with the band. When the OD band goes, it has basically "burned up" OD. Does happen to these, but if they shift in and out, the servo and band are both working. Did you read through the link I posted? That's a step by step manual written by the guy who designed the Ford AOD transmission. With all due respect, you are wrong. Tim
  17. Sure. Mine runs fine at those temps, with the exception of the power steering howling. I just go easy till it builds up some heat, at which point the power steering stops howling too. Granted I haven't driven it in 20 below temps, and I don't think many have, but I have driven it down to around 15 or 20 above. It always starts immediately, goes up to 1600 rpm, hangs for about 30 seconds, and comes down to 1100 till it warms fully, whereupon it goes to 900. It does this regardless of whether it is ten degrees or one hundred. I maintain my position about when to move. If your car will not function at those temps, you have a problem. Electronic fuel injection, even as rudimentary as ours may be, should still run a car acceptably well at 20 below without much fuss. At 20 below, I would drive away, but i would be very gentle, as I would want things to gently come up to temperature from being that cold. Like I said.....the drivelines will come to temp quicker, and more evenly as opposed to sitting around while the engine heats up. Tim
  18. As soon as you have oil pressure, you can drive off within 15 seconds. No balls-to-the-wall, no hard stuff, just ease off, and easily drive around. The driveline will come up to temp at the same time as the engine if you do that. Tim
  19. Dude, you could drive a Chevy Aveo and be welcome. Don't worry over that.....before I got the Palermo Gray roadworthy, I went to a lot of meets in my Ford Taurus. Tim
  20. As most of you know, i work in industrial parts, and have a source of oRings, Buna-N and Viton. If someone wants to drop me a new one in an envelope, I will measure, source, and everything, and return the new oring. I am almost 100% certain I can get a perfect replacement, and in Viton, which I think it needs to be for heat reasons, and I can get the square deal on it. Tim
  21. Oh, yeah....as far as why it was done....I can only guess, but I would guess that someone did u joints, and couldn't get the snap rings to fit right. Now, Maxzillian and myself have both had this issue before, and had to go to the hardware store for different snap rings. Looks to me like someone didn't feel like getting the correct size, and simply used a washer, and welded things together. Truly worthy of thereifixedit.com If you say it was done before you bought the car, I am inclined to believe you.....however, THIS sort of monkey business is why these cars give trouble and get junked. Not that I am picking on YOU, but simply doing the job right goes a really long way on these cars. You solve this hack job stuff on your car, you will be MUCH happier. And don't wait to fix it. Make it right now. It's a part weakened by heat, and the needle bearings have very likely lost their temper. Tim
  22. Does the 300ZX qualify as a pocket rocket...... Pretty good question, really. I'd say it is small enough. It's definately ownable, as lots, including yourself have one.... How about some other opinions on this? I had originally thought econoboxes/hot hatches/everyday quick fun cars...... Tim EDIT: Stoopid office computer sucks.....I haven't had a machine I could outrun when typing in a long time.
