  1. Sold today... Thanks! The PVC valve was modified into a breather and we needed a good vacuum source for the BOV..
  2. Yes, it was a infamous Challenge car with a couple hundred hours of work and only $1,000 invested (It came with $$$ in new parts). And yes I still have it. Come and get it!
  3. To keep it under budget for the event we couldn't afford new shocks.... But I had some old Konis in great shape (no value). So we made extra shock mounts on the lower arm and the wheel well. Works great!
  4. The Challenge competition was to build the car for under $2,000, we entered and won twice the under $1000 class. So hundreds of hours and lots of creativity was all we could use.... A heavy wrap of scrap tie down straps works great!
  5. Those interior pieces were from this car. There's still a couple of boxes of miscellaneous parts that go with the car. It would be a shame to part this out as so much has been done to it. There must be a drifter out there!?! It would be a blast at Chump car, just add a cage and better front shocks....
  6. The "fast butt ugly" is due to the lack of paint. Part of the competition is show points. I figured I would have fun with it. In fact the name of the car was a take off of the Starion (Star Orion) keeping the galactic theme we called it Uranus. Here's a video from the Challenge (Yes, it's all in fun. But competitive...) The "beard" was to keep air from under the car in the drags. It was missing the factory one...
  7. SOLD.Thanks! http://www.classicminis.org/starion/uranusside.gif I built this car for the Grassroots Motorsports magazine Challenge. When I got it everything was in boxes but I was told the engine was just rebuilt. Not trusting the prior builder, I took the engine a part. It was all new, just not torqued! So, the engine only has a few hours on it with a new ported/polished head (without the exhaust tube in it). Everything not needed was stripped from the car(all sold) As you will see in the pictures, it doesn't get much lighter... It has some minimal, but it is a very solid car. If you want a Starion to race drags/autocross/road course/Chump.... this is a great place to start, most of the hard work and $$$ is done. Here's some more info: New = 4 years old with a few hours on it New: rebuilt engine, intercooler, T3-T4 turbo, all calipers, master cylinder, 4 puck clutch, BOV, clutch slave, sway bar bushings, water pump, harness, fuel pressure regulator and gauge Used: Big air flow meter, aluminum rad, extra rear wheels with Mickey Thompson drag radials,
  8. Stop by sometime and we'll go for a ride in the ultimate turbo, my '67 Mini turbo. Half the size, twice the fun! My "work" cell is above, give a call sometime, but then I might call you from the Challenge when something goes wrong again....
  9. To keep it under 1K we obviously didn't paint it. That's why it's "Fast, butt ugly" http://www.classicminis.org/starion/uranusside.gif
  10. I started this under $1,000 Grassroots Motorsports Challenge car ('86 Starion) a couple of years ago. I received a lot of help from members of this board (Thanks!). Some have tried to attend the Challenge in the past... If anybody wants to come out, it's free to spectate at the Gainesville Raceway. The autocross is Friday (7th) and the drags are Saturday. I know it's a late notice, sorry... For more info... http://grassrootsmotorsports.com/events/2011challenge/ If you want to call me, it's Mike 321-890-9888 cell Here's our entry.... Back to back under 1K winner... http://www.classicminis.org/starion/uranusfront.gif
  11. Soooo, are you going to make it this year? Are you under 1K or going for the full $2010? I drained the green gas out of the tank yesterday and drove it around the block, I'm almost ready... Actually I'm looking for some 15" rims for the rear so I can get some 15" drag tires. What junked car can I get them off of???
  12. If my schedule permits I would love to make it with the Challenge Starion. I'm sure I can get a few pointers on what to do for next year. Please add me to the list and let me know when/where. mike@worldsfastestclown.com
  13. This is probably covered somewhere, but I can't find it... Is there a wiring diagram to convert the '86 B-38 plug onto an '87 harness? We're trying to determine which wires on the '87 engine harness require connection to the interior harness at connector B-38. I'll be running this car at the Grassroots Motorsports Challenge in a couple of weeks, assuming I get this figured out. Any help would be appreciated!
  14. Here's what you get when a clown (me) takes real tobacco adds and shows the truth... This was a national elementary school prevention campaign. http://www.worldsfastestclown.com/images/boxingab.jpg http://www.worldsfastestclown.com/images/camelbig2.jpg http://www.worldsfastestclown.com/images/vslims5a.jpg Of course the good ole' USA doesn't believe in prevention or a campaign that's not PC (campaign is alcohol prevention as well) so here's my rant www.GodSaveTheClown.com In Hungary they start tobacco prevention in Kindergarten, but we're the superior/smarter country, yep....
  15. Thanks for the PM's calls and offers! If you haven't heard from me yet, sorry, been working on the project. Here's where it stands: Interior 110% stripped (dashboard kept per rules), doors gutted to bare skins, front bumper support and padding removed, headlight motors removed (brackets made to hold the lights up), big aluminum radiator installed by cutting some of the frame rail and cutting/boxing in the tie rod mounting brackets so it sits low enough. I think it's as light as I can get it. Next will be to pull the fuel tank, possibly replace with a plastic boat tank ( I have a 3 gallon one, possibly looking for a used 5 gallon boat tank, anybody?). So, as soon as the base chassis (minus lowering) is done then I'll start figuring out the mechanicals. At this point I think I've sourced all of the parts needed to make it run. I will need a cheap BOV (anybody?). I'm going to buy the cheap ebay t3 t4 V band turbo .60/.63 this week unless someone has a better idea/deal $$$ (remember I'm building the entire car for under 1K) As soon as I have "everything" in and plumbed it would be a great time for anybody/everybody to come by and help get it running. Between being gone for 3 weeks and finishing up the chassis, the soonest I see us getting together would be the 2nd weekend of September. That is one month before the Challenge, but with the knowledge and resources here, I'm sleeping good that it'll run and run fast. If you're in the area before then, please let me know and hopefully I'll be in town. I will use this thread as an update on the project. Anybody that wants to go to the Challenge (October 8-10) it's free to spectate each day (Gainesville Raceway, autocross on Friday, drags on Sunday). Maybe a good club get together. Each night they have a nice get together at the host hotel with great food and usually a slide show and slot car races, and a banquet the last night. For the night time stuff/banquet it's $50pp (this is of course optional). Here's the event info http://grassrootsmotorsports.com/events/2009-challenge/ It's a very interesting event, that is to see all of the creative cars. It's not an exciting event like going to a real race, since the only real head to head is the drags, and it's just for times, not who's next to you. But then you can also help make our car faster and faster, no boom please, I don't want the most spectacular failure award. Also, please don't spill the beans on what we're building. I like to surprise them when I get there. I know with the internet it's almost impossible to do this... Thanks again, I look forward to meeting some of you!
