  1. yea at this point my game plan has become, take the engine to 88-9 spec at 10.5-12, mod around the engine to keep driveline stress down and if/when i wanna go faster ill find a 4g63. till then i'll do mods that stay wit the chassis and just learn to be a mechanic on this engine.
  2. Hey guys, in an effort to get my new(to me) conquest in order, i'm lookin at the brakes, i have a budget of about 100 bucks to put into brakes, and i want to see some opinions on the most important places to address on a aged braking system, and some ideas on what could be DIY'd by myself to save a buck, since my money to spend is so limited. i'm thinking i need to completely drain the fluid which is cheap to replace, and probably mostly original. Also inspect the rubber lines (dunno what replacement lines cost on these cars) and most likely get some brake pads. probably going to re pack my bearings as well. anything else??
  3. just came back in from putting on new vacuum hoses:) at least this thread made me not feel so bad for the quest marking it's territory in everyone's driveway.
  4. :eek1bluegreen: :sweatingitout: :sweatingitout: new starquest owner,, i'm worried! it's my daily, been workin on it and been good so far! crossin all my fingers and toes.
  5. timing is gigantic! because timing and temperature affect knock, at the point knock becomes audible from the driver seat it's already been doing work on your engine for a good bit. and also having the rather basic timing system quests have,, is there any system for knock retard?? knock produces alot of pressure and ALOT of heat and audible knock is far past the line of acceptable knock, which is almost none. he was running 10* all the time and using his ears as a sort of knock retard, need a more reliable system. i never put 2 and 2 together till now but wihtout knock retard it's no wonder theses engines have so much trouble!\ Gm engine management has had knock retarded timing since at least 85, and it's one of the most sensitive issues to a DIY tuner like myself, and the quest engine being boosted?? it should have timing and boost knock retard for sure!

  7. i think 187 on an IRS and relatively small tires is pretty impressive. http://i129.photobucket.com/albums/p239/ohiok04s4/Jamiefrontview.jpg
  8. copied and pasted from cleveland racing gotta find more hard info for sure: So we finally did it. First pass off the trailer last night: 7.88 @ 185 with a 1.38 60. Backed it up with a 7.81 @ 187.4 with a 1.31 60. The previous MPH record was held by Boost Logic (186.6) using a glide, a bigger 55-91 and a taller tire. After contemplating a third 'give it hell pass' we just decided to drive it straight back onto the trailer and call it a night. We're .1 away from the ET record held by Titan. Here's the video (you can hear me lift right after the 60 to kill some tire shake, so we left some ET on the table): http://videos.streetfire.net/video/A...nce_192496.htm And it only took a $45 part to go from breaking something rear end related about every time we pulled it off the trailer to running 7's. Well that and a few different combos of axles, rear ends, and diffs. Don was getting sick of me complaining about not being able to see the Motec digital dash so he installed a shift light to stop the bleeding. After hooking it up, we ran two consistent passes for the first time. We didn't change a thing all summer. Set the shocks at 50%, boost at 33-35 psi, and the Maximizer at 100%. Still running a 28*10.5 slick on the OEM IRS. It took us about a dozen hits to get into the 7's which is pretty cool given that it was completely built from the ground up. Except for a loose nitrous fitting early in the year, not a single gremlin popped up. Accelerated Performance deserves some credit for building the first customer Supra in the 7's....especially since it's driven by a fat, old guy.... ::i gotta find the video as well..
  9. cleveland street scene is proud to have the worlds fastest supra. i'll find times and such later
  10. very nice sir, but how do i evaluate without tearing it apart? also it's a 87 with 76k on the clock.
  11. ^i don't think a g54b can take that lol, i think you just need to brake boost, spool the turbo up and then come out. i have a tpi350 t/a w/700r4 and i don't think my 5 speed quest is too sluggish at 7.5psi and little modification. feels like a low 15 sec high 14 car with a decent tire.
  12. ^not the first to tell me this, i'm torn between just taking it to fourteens, or makin it my main project and shooting for a 13 sec, autox capable street car.
  13. yes but it sounds like the exhaust of the car is where there's alot of power to be made, while theoretically reducing EGT's and overall engine stress. i'm very new to forced induction, mostly played with v8's but it seems that making a "fast"(not necessarily drag racing) engine is a balancing act of engine torque and turbo sizing. i read a article recently and a guy had used a pajero exhaust mani. on a starion g54b and the only difference you could see right off was a larger port on the turbo end..
  14. s*** those mufflers will have to be right off the collectors to build any pressure. that's a one trick pony so to speak and the losers aint laughing.
  15. already got BSEK,2.5exhaust no cat,ngk plugs/wires,and a k&n filter:) sounds like i'm on my way. decrease spool time you mean?
  16. okay 3 wire went in tonight and she feels very smooth and stable at low revs now. no quitting or sputtering just an occasional miss. still gotta set the tps/isc but i think i need to clean up the isc and it's port because i'm experiencing slow return to idle occasionally. planning on some carb cleaner and cleaning the contacts and some brass brushes to scrub the port clean. i notice now that i've done an ignitions system tune up and the 02 sensor now as well, it takes less throttle to spool the turbo up and reach 7.5, it seems to shoot right up and hold steady now instead of lagging. I'm hitting up a mitsu dealership tomorow to get a "correct" pcv valve and oil cap gasket. vacuum lines are on my list as well as the brakes...
  17. this is turning into a really good thread. It makes sense to to relieve as much pressure on the exhaust side as possible in order to be the easiest on the engine. i think the factory 10.5 should be good for this turbo seeing as i'd like to see good revs from it and a decent lifetime. Now by the same token without adding additional boost can an improvement in the flow on the compressor side(ICtubing and air filter etc) in and out make as much power as the exhaust? and does it mean there'll be a longer spool time?
  18. a fellow sq fan in the area said he can take the compressor off one of my tdo5h talon turbo's and machine it to attach to the turbine that's on the car already to make a bolt on 14b, is this kinda what your talking about? alos if i have a catless 2 1/2 inch exhaust and downpipe, would turning up the boost be as bad since i've already removed some "thermal load" or have i removed any at all?
  19. i'm from Ohio.ok it's not foreign but the girls in cleveland would make you think you were in the twilight zone.
  20. i've owned ten 3rdgens, currently own 2. owned the quest for a week and thinkin of selling both of them for a reliable daily and project money:)
  21. lol at your sig, you know there's a firebird symbol in the middle of the eye right??
