  1. I just thought I'd post some newer pics of my ride. The paint was pretty oxidzed but it's getting back to original. http://i150.photobucket.com/albums/s120/SI-dan/DSC00495.jpg http://i150.photobucket.com/albums/s120/SI-dan/DSC00493.jpg http://i150.photobucket.com/albums/s120/SI-dan/DSC00490.jpg http://i150.photobucket.com/albums/s120/SI-dan/DSC00494.jpg Enjoy!
  2. So It ended up being the battery. Bought a new and after a couple of cranks it started up. Thanks for the suggestions.
  3. I will give it a try. I smell fuel and the tach does move when I try and turn it on. I will check all hoses and I will check for spark as you stated. I will post back when I have some time to look at it. Thanks again.
  4. Thanks Caliber308, I will check it again. I just can't see how the car won't start when I haven't tapped for power, just unplugged the cluster and installed the gauge and ran the vacuum for the gauge and plugged it back up to start and check for leaks on the gauge and hose. I really now wish I just put the gauge on the pillar......
  5. Yeah, gas is not the problem. This car was running perfect, I really mean that. I assumed that anything I modded on the cluster would not interfere whatsoever with the car actually running. I haven't connected any power for the gauge yet. I guess I will have to check the wiring, but this is ridiculas as the cluster should have nothing to do with the car starting.
  6. So I was installing my new boost gauge in the OEM dash cluster. Everything went fine, connected everything back up and now the car will not start. Figures, I checked and the car turns over, the cluster is working, sooo I can't imagine what could cause the issue. First, could the car start without the cluster? And if so, maybe I loosened some other wires behind the dash? Not sure, maybe someone has a suggestion that can help me track this down. Thanks
  7. Here's some pics of the quest I saved from the junkyard. She's now smogged and registered, thanks mostly too others trials and tribulations on this site. I will continue to address the faults of the car before I begin the mods. This will become my weekend autocrosser. I's so excited! When she first came home! http://i150.photobucket.com/albums/s120/SI-dan/DSC00422.jpg http://i150.photobucket.com/albums/s120/SI-dan/DSC00421.jpg http://i150.photobucket.com/albums/s120/SI-dan/DSC00425.jpg http://i150.photobucket.com/albums/s120/SI-dan/DSC00424.jpg http://i150.photobucket.com/albums/s120/SI-dan/DSC00423.jpg And after polish and wax http://i150.photobucket.com/albums/s120/SI-dan/DSC00429.jpg http://i150.photobucket.com/albums/s120/SI-dan/DSC00431.jpg New exhaust and tags!!! http://i150.photobucket.com/albums/s120/SI-dan/DSC00430.jpg
  8. She's smogged and registered as of today. Pics up soon. Once again can't thank forums like this enough.
  9. I'll be taking her today to hopefully pass the sniffer.
  10. I'm not sure were to put this but here goes. I purchased my 87 quest about 3 weeks ago for $500 giant smackers. The car ran like crap, no boost, misfiring and wouldn't smog. I got this from the original owner who had a family mechanic take care of it. I'm sure many of you know where this story goes from here. So, I figured if I can fix it instead of buying a running smogged one, I'll have a good running car and I'll know what's been done to it. So thanks to the Starquests forums, I have figured out the problems by reading all the Q and A's from others and followed each problem like a detective.... I initially found a cracked manifold and replaced that, then clogged precat, gutted, I replaced the wholed exhaust with cat, 2.5 of course. Still no boost. More reading, I then replaced gaskets in case fo leaking, still no boost. checked for vacuum leaks, nada. Then I checked for ground issues, seemed good. I then checked the timing, I found the first problem, it was advanced to 18 degrees, wt..... So, I purchased a timing light and put back to 10. Improvement, but still not quite running right. I continue using the SEARCH feature and find something about the possibility of the FPR being the culprit, now mind you I've checked the injectors for leaks. Changed the FPR and the car started to rev, hoooo. I'm getting closer but no quite running right yet. Well guess what, I purchased new injectors just for my own sanity, and just when I was getting ready to hook I wondered if the mechanic ever really looked at how he hooked up the newer injectors he had on the car and voala he had the plugs swapped. I have to say if it wasn't for all the folks on these forums this car would have been in the scrapper. She runs beatifully. Since this owner has been running this car with a cracked manifold and never ran it very often, the turbo seems to be in excelent shape. Thanks for helping another enthusiast for bringing this machine back from the dead!!! Now on to smog!! I will post pics after I polish the car.
  11. I had a WRX and had a 20G and it was a pretty weak DD. a 20G makes sense if you got some torque like the 2.5 STI engine, but that 2.0 is weak on the low end. I rolled a tuned VF34 and it was a very strong combo with RA gears. Anyways, I guess it would come down to if he wants a high horsepower narrow power band car, or a DD that is pretty fast. And a VF34 can run low 13s high 12s with very little effort. Just an opinion from someone who owned a bugeye.
  12. Yeah, I'm waiting to get the gearing done as well on this car. I had my gears done on my old WRX and that things was downright scary to drive, even in the rain, didn't matter that is was 4wd, smoked anything I saw on the streets. Anyways, I can't wait too put 3.64 LSD diff on the M. mmmmmm
